264 Cams, set to TDC, but not degreed...Kaboom?

Can I run the car like this, or will it cause interference?

Should I wait and have the cams professionally degreed before starting the engine?

Do they have the alignment tick marks like stock cams?

You can accidentally assembly the timing with either sprocket advanced or retarded a tooth and not bend the valves (constant threads on SaabNet confirm how many people get the timing off and it just makes the engine run funny).

If there aren't any tick marks to get them close to timed I wouldn't risk it though until you can get a dial indicator on them.

Yep, They're Enems that have the alignment marks set to TDC like the stock cams, and they're matched with the crank. I hand rotated the crank twice to check for any odd noises or misalignment and it looked OK...

Just go ahead & Dial the cams in on no4 cyl first. Then rotate 180 & make sure the measurment you set 4 to is excactly the same as No1. if it is. Your done

So...double checked the cams...looked good...

Disconnected the fuel pump fuse to crank over a few times to build oil pressure. Reconnected the fuel pump fuse and fired it up...

After a couple of false starts it roared to life with a shit load of smoke from the old gas, and I cheered wildly!!!! No nasty clanks.

And then I noticed the puddle of oil growing under the car dripping from the clutch housing.

Fuck.

Rear main seal.

Dashed to the store for kitty litter and now it's time for scotch, no ice, in a tumbler glass.

Skip the glass and go straight from the bottle.

Scotch is going down quite easy with these: GLACIER ROCKS - For Men - Gifts

All the cooling, none of the dilution. I'm about half a tumbler into what my wife calls "recession scotch" but I don't really care.

I checked and saw that I actually have a spare rear main seal still in the Eeuroparts packaging, so I don't have to worry about that. I just need to find to time to put the bastard in...

EDIT: Kitty litter is stupid. Make the feline fuckers use the grass outside like dogs.

the car will definitly run on the stock setting for 264 but no where near the cams potential. the 276 enem cams will interfere with the pistons if you run them at stock settings. they need to be degreed for proper usage

Ha! I saw your previous post and was going to suggest those. Looks like you're all set though!

I love 'em!

whiskey rocks are the shit! Always help take the edge off. Only problem I found (if you can call it that) is the scotch disappears a lot quicker since it doesn't get watered down with the melted ice...

What kind of scotch? I'm more of a whiskey person, and enjoy that Jameson 12 year, neat.
