T5-ing a T7.

Let's say I find a 2000-2002 9-3 that is in need of an engine and is in better shape than my 1999 9-3. Since I have a complete t5 Saab could I put that in the 2000-2002 and move everything t5 related over?

I did a quick search bt yeilded no real results.

What componets are different?
-engine block/head
-intake mani
-throttle body
-bpc
-ecu
-accelerator

what else? ABS?

well the engine would be a somewhat direct swap..... and i understand t5 is much more user friendly then t7, but i think you would end up with a car that has many features that dont work

This.

In my opinion there is no need to swap software and electronics to T7. I just think it would be a large undertaking and would probably produce the results that Green9kAERO describe...a car with issues.

So I could dump my t5 engine in the t7 car and leave the car a t7?

I guess I could do that rather than try to drop it down to a t5. I will miss my BOV*.

The engine will work, but you would need to retain the T7 head. There are a few sensors and stuff like the Maf that a T5 engine would not account for also but I suppose if you want a nice winter project, there is only one way to truely find out.

You don't need to use the T7 head as far as I know.

However I would use the T7 head with the T5 Cams. That would be a good combination.

Of course, it is a pretty common thing to do. People installing B234 and B204s in their 9-5s and T7 9-3s aren't converting them to T5.

The blocks are the same, they're just changing them because they are usually a slightly cheaper replacement for blown motors, and/or because they are stronger internally.

This has been discussed on this site ad nauseum.

Yes you Need to use the T7 head, The intake manifold Ports are larger on the t7 head, The t5 intake won't fit your E.throtle T7 throtle body so the t7 head gets it. Just Swap the t5 Block over.

Oh Right...I forgot about that part.
Now I recall people using phenolic spacers to make the intake ports or throttle bodies line up.

Like I said before though, throw the T5 cams into the T7 head.
