where to buy viggen trans?

I am debating throwing a new trans in my 2K viggen, anyone have a guess on cost & also any suggestions on where to buy it from? My car will not go into reverse probably 95% of the time & it's to much of a PITA. So I figured new clutch & trans are in order.

I would go straight to Goldwing. I'm not sure of the specifics of what they offer for a warranty but its worth it as an option.

x2 on Goldwing. I got a 62k mile 9-3 trans from them last year, free shipping. Shifts like butter and you can't beat the warranty.

Yep this is the cheap way to go. As long as you are changing the diff (And the bearing cover) you can make it a "Vig". Also the used 185/205hp trans had possibly an easier life at a given mileage.

For the viggen, if you find a good deal on a cobalt SS tranny, it has the same gears and lsd inside. It could be swapped into the saab viggen cases.

Sounds like whatever happened inside of your transmission was the same failure that mine has had. Trans swap is happening on my end shortly before I leave for OCS.

10 days and counting. Wow.

dammit..... thought I could still get it back.....

not sure I want to go throught the expense of a LSD..... been debating on selling the car but I think I will keep it. Trying to get ideas.... still waiting on a reply from goldwing.....

reverse issues seems to be kinda common with these cars

John
if (when) i'm in the market for a new tranny, i'll be looking into this option. I wonder how feasible it actually is?

Cobalt SS is simply a f35 gearbox same as a 9-3SS You can swap the internals. They are all the same not an upgrade.

I did this a few months back but opted for a brand new trans in a box. The new transmissions have all the latest upgrades (crush sleeve you have to replace anyways when installing the Quaife). Local dealer gave me a huge deal on the trans and used ones were not available at the time. So far I'm loving it and it seems to be holding up really well....just changed the oil and no metal bits to speak of!

Quaife is really worth the money and effort IMO.

doesn't the SS tranny have an LSD though? I think that's the advantage that was brought up originally on that topic

I think there is no LSD, only the Cobalt especially equipped have it.
