Blown-up 2.3T in '99 9-3

Mangled con-rod that blew a hole through my friend's engine block.



Layers of bearing flakes.




Hole in block...


Oil cooler was blocked off (clogged by some sht) and led to some bottom-end starvation issues. Oil heated up and the bearing failed... leading to the bolts of an end-cap to break, and the con-rod turned into a ballistic projectile that blew a big-azz hole in the block.

We were set to put a spare 2.3 back in his car, but noticed the oil pump and cover were scored very badly. (Why does the B204 have a smaller/crappy oil pump than a B234?)

Car repair is in limbo while he gets a replacement end cover (for oil pump) and oil cooler. Crappy thing is he had already powder-coated the cover before noticing the scoring.

Ouch, I had a rod that both side studs had stretched and one snapped. I wonder if replacing all the studs in the other 3 rods is a good idea?
