Any tweak for T5Suite Stage 3 .bin after T25 to TD04 upgrade?

1999 9-3 SE w/T5 Suite stage 3 (automatic trans.), open filter, 3" full exhaust.

My friend recently upgraded his 9-3 to the above specs. and today has fitted a Td04 to replace the stock T25 that died ( 1/4" shaft play... eek). My question is whether the current tune will adapt to the larger turbo, or will we have to flash a different .bin file to his ECU.

Thanks.

While it's most likely fine to run on the T5Suite stage 3 .bin, he should definitely tweak it if he wants to maximize performance. There are some Stage 3+ / Stage 4 bins floating around on ECU project to provide a starting point. I may be doing this exact same thing to my car this winter...I have the TD04 sitting on my workbench.

The main thing is the TD04 will be moving a bit more air and spool won't be exactly the same and so if you're wanting to really tweak the old tune you would just have to support those two changes. I'm sure there's more to it than that, just something to think about.

^eggsackery.

Boost request limits can be raised, but at the same time, the air values and rpm ranges will be a little different. There are some TD04 bins out there for B204 engines...just get a bin and compare to the Stage 3 T25 bin to get a feel for the difference in air flow.

But it should be OK to drive it around in the meantime, I just wouldn't push it super hard.

Ok so. My brother and I did the same TD04 Swap on his NG. Same engine etc....

Lurking on ECU project is a B204R file. There were a few T5 1999 93s that were HOT and came with TD04(dunno about here, probably in europe).

Any ways, just find that file, stage it up. The biggest difference is the VE maps(volumetric efficiency) between the T25 and the TD04.

^really?

At least in the US B204R was just a T25 car witha crossflow IC and a slightly modified map, or so I thought. I posted a US B204R bin on ECUproject, and it was car with those specs.

But if there is a Euro B204R T5 with TD04, that will be easy, as D-t-K said, just stage it up.

**Update**
According to this thread, even the Euro B204R is a T25.

Unfortunately no B204 ever came with a TD04

Huh, I wonder why I thought that....

But either way,*I think* the VE maps are better on the B204R file.

My friend got his car all back together, although he had to fab up the water lines for the turbo. It fired right up and idled great for 15 minutes, but when we went for a drive something bad happened, and we think that the engine is starting to seize. Will know more tomorrow when we drop the oil pan.

Did you check to make sure there was a good seal for the oil return pipe?

Thats always a bit of a problem on the TD04 swaps if you dont get the right parts.

yeah, we checked everything twice. No leaks at all, and everything seemed fine. (My buddy had also taken the head off to replace the headgasket, and I had helped him replace the valve seals while the head was off...PITA)

Something had seized up the motor, now you can't turn it over by putting a long wrench on the cam and turning. The top of the motor was getting oil though, as there was plenty there when we took the valve cover off.

It ran kind of crumby, so we figured the cam timing might be a bit off. But on the way back to his shop it made a popping sound under boost and the engine died. No intake hoses popped off, and I wonder if maybe he spun a bearing or something.

Shit. Sounds like the timing may have been off. Bummer man, let us know what you find!

Just got this message from my buddy. Bad crank I guess.

Is it possible to put a B234R into a '99 9-3? That's what he's mulling now.

Can a B234 block be mated to the B204 transmission? I suppose anything is possible, but is there an easy straight swap?

Needless to say he's not happy.

B204 block is a B234 block. The only difference is in the crank, rods, pistons, and oil pan (9k tilts it forward).

So yes you could put in a b234 motor in no problem.

Cool, I just stumbled on the sticky for the swap ( that thing about not seeing the forest through the trees... or something like that)

Plans are being made...
