Transmission bearings

I was looking at new bearing prices for the bearings in Saab gearboxes. Are they really over $100 each? Have been getting mine from two bearing suppliers and the price has not changed in the last 5 years. For example, I just bought the bearing on the clutch end of the input shaft for $10 locally. Saab's list for this bearing is $98.25. Old Saab price was $12. What is going on?

I know my buddy Steve gets his bearings much cheaper than what Saab list them for these days. It also matters if you are a shop or if you are a every day joe buying them. The two diff bearings were about 58 for one and 36 for the other, but Steve did say he can get every bearing but one from another supplier and it was the smallest one and not available from his other supplier and it was about 76 bucks and he was complaining about that.

Make sure that you're comparing the prices for the same quality of bearings. I used to work in a machine shop and there are a lot of crappy bearings out there.

I would think that trannies are not the place to skimp on bearings. Usually it's best to stick with known brands like Timken and SKF which are most likely OEM.
