I am goign to purchase a cx intercooler within the next week and was wondering with the 28x8x3.5 can I use the viggen intercooler hoses or am I going to have to rig something up?

You will need to srt out the hoses. None of those universal ICs have the hose connections the right way or any brackets. That thickness seems a bit too much.

Make sure it is good enough. We put a larger than stock Core in the HHR and turned out it did not cool as well as factory, it flowed a little better so we made more power in the cool, less in the heat. We had to go to a very large core to get better cooling than factory :)

Hey,
I put that same intercooler in my car when I was back in KC this last summer and I've had pretty good results with it. As far as the plumbing went, it was definitely not an easy job. My dad and I managed to use a piece or two from the original intercooler and another part we pulled an intake hose off of one of those huge, Ford vans. I didn't use any other extra SAAB hose.

Nick, I didn't do any actual tests on mine after the install but I did drive it around in the summer quite a bit. Did a couple pulls against a few friends and I never felt any loss of power between pulls, running on the highway, but that's just going off of the butt dyno. I did make 15whp more in 4th gear, before and after, on the same dyno, though, so this core definitely flows more.

Sorry I can't really be more specific than that about the hoses, I'll just say it wasn't an easy job even with a lift and every possible tool available. Good luck.

(PS Nick, thanks for re-routing my tranny mount for me. Sorry for any confusion.)

I'm assuming you mean thicker. That only makes a little difference, though.
I looked and couldn't find any of my pictures on this computer, sorry. That write up should work for you, though. When it all came down to it, though, the pictures didn't help me so much. You just gotta rip your bumper off and take a look around. That's when you'll know how much 'fun' you're getting yourself into. Good luck.

cx racing 27x6x3.5 and works just fiiine
I kinda just went for it on the IC piping...
this should help you with your install

1- 2.5inch 45deg mandrel bend
1- stock compressor outlet hose (cut)
2- 2.25/2.5 silicone reducers
2- 90deg silicone bends (cut)
2- 2.5 joiners
1- stock IC pipe (cut)
6- 2.5 T clamps
2- 2.25 T clamps

then whatever mounting bracket you decide on.
