Powerchip?

Does anyone have the powerchip ecu? Ive looked around and there has been some talk about getting it, but no evidence of anyone actually doing it. If so I was wonder if the money was worth it or would I be better off saving up for a more recognized Saab tuner?

my vote would be for one of the big tuners who specialize in Saab only. you will get more power and probably a safer tune that leaves more of trionic's safety features intact and properly tunes the ECU rather than just "tricking" it into making power.... just my 2 cents, you will get many differing opinions, I am sure.

I'm saving up for them. Maybe this summer. They are the only company that will mod an N/A ECU

I agree with ricot83 here! Be patient and you may see some things from Powerchips in the very near future. But you didn't hear that from me either!!

Thanks a lot fellas, thats like back in middle school when your friend comes up to you and says, "I know who has a crush on you but I cant tell." What gives? Are they looking at using our cars for R&D or is some new software in the works. This is killing me, I hate being left in the dark.

Yes there is research being done by Powerchips. I don't really want to go much further at this time due to the fact that it will all be detailed in the very near future. My car spent 2 weeks in a Powerchips location getting probed and prodded and that is about all I will say right now.

I will be posting 30-90mph, 60-120MPH and standing start runs as well as a complete review of the product and the additional upgrades that I am doing with the ECU. Do a search for "Upgrade Plans for my 9-3" and you can read my entire post on who, what, when and where.

Ok is that enough infor for you yet??

geez, you might as well just give it all away. I think that is it fairly obvious now which of the tuning companies is going to use powerchips to offer ECU upgrades.

Okay, I get whats going on here. This is all good to know, and Im assuming the powerchip ECUs will now be able to have stages instead of the one they currently offer. SteveHAyes, I heard that Powerchip is not legal in CA, is this a concern of yours? I will be living in Cali somewhere down the road, should I be concerned?

The current powerchips offerings are ot legal in california but the ECU reprogramming that is being done on the staged levels will be 100% 50 State and Cali smog legal. The problem with Cali is that unless you get what is called a CARB Approved Sticker from the SMOG board then nothing you make is legal here. I had headers on a car from Pacesetter that were not street legal here and I never got an issue when I smogged my car so I would not worry about it.

The Auto will be in 3 stages and the manual will be in 5 stages I believe but that will be something that Chris and Eric from MP will be able to elaborate on more when they are ready to go with the product. I can tell you that I will definatley give the ECU, new FMIC and DP a good work out and tell you how it all is working together and how much increase I am getting from it. MP does some very good work for reasonable money so I have no doubts that this new venture will be just as good and beneficial for the SAAB community!!

Good to have you out there puting your car through the motions but I think you are avoiding whats going to happen, why dont you just break down and convert your beast to a manual and be MPs official spokesperson. I know you want to go higher than stage 3.

I will be the official Autobox spokesman for them!! I have a pretty mean C900 that is a 5spd that gets all the abuse from me. The wife like the Auto so I figure that 265 to 280HP give or take should make it a fun car to drive and give some serious competition on the street and track. Chris and Eric are great guys with a good head for what makes sense to the SAAB peeps and it wont be long until they can service pretty much all your needs for your new gen SAAB's.
