Tried to see what the new turbo would do on the track and it immediately took the clutch out. You can hear it let loose in second gear and then re-grab and spin the tires. 13.4 at 118mph
It went from clutch spin to wheel spin" to hooked... I am going to have to make the move to slicks. Just need a 8" wide rim that is 15" so I can fit the 26x10.5x15 slicks I want to run. That with some lowered boost in first and second gear and I will gain a full second by most people's account of how much better you do when you swap from drag radials to slicks...
Spec stage 3 pressure plate, new 6 puck and new spec center flywheel piece.
I can only dream I sure wish I had, the vert was available at a good price when I started modding and now I have so much time and energy in it, its hard to squash all that to return to a hard top... Its heavy fo shoo....
The trap speed is good for 11's, but that dang traction issue.... The Honda guys were telling me the slicks would be good for a full second, that would put me right in the low 12's to high 11's... We shall see....
I know, if the clutch would have held, that should have been a 12 second run, I am going to lower the boost in first and second and I have a spec pressure plate coming soon.
The next step is to find some 8" wide rims so I can get some 26x10.5x15 slicks on the car. I might have to go 14" rims to get room for the side-wall and so the slicks do not hit the fender wells...
Swapping the motor and set-up to the 9k would be the smart move, no roll bar or cage needed until below 11.49, its just all the time and energy to make such a swap.
I have thought of doing a cheap run on my cse. Put in a holset and just see what it will take and then rebuild it, but I might just do the roll bar in the mean time because the car is so much closer to the end of my goals.
Is this run w/ the .64 turbine housing on the 3076 or the .86? Anyway, good pass. what clutch did you have in it on this run?
OT: is that a Greddy turbo timer I see there under the radio?
Dang you and Nick are very close but then I have to remember your at altitude. Be scary to see if you'd drop any more time/pick up more trap speed at lower altitude...........you should drive out to see Nick and make a pass together one night......I'd drive out to witness it thats for sure.
I mentioned this to Nick, I think it would be great fun to come down to sea-level and see how well I could do and how much my times would pick up. There are quite a few guys from Arizona that have done that and most lost about 5 tenths and 3-4mph. One sti had was running 12.0 at Arizona and he ran 12.5 at Bandimere. He also lost exactly 40whp on a dynojet.
As soon as I get the new clutch in the car I will see if I can set up a time to come down and run at the track with Nick and put my car on his dyno and see how that works
The NHRA for turbo cars at Bandimere gives .4 tenths in et and 3mph in speed. So my best run ever of 13.1 at 112mph would be 12.7 at 115mph.
That last run would be 12.9 at 121mph with cf...
I will get the time down, I need to lower my boost in first and second and get some slicks. Might try the na 900 with 4.05 final drive tranny with new clutch.
I use a short stage, I did everything I did to get my 2.1's and 8.6 1/8th miles, its just the clutch gave out and was slipping bad in second every time and I had too much boost for first.
Once I get the new spec pressure plate and get the boost right for first and second, the et will be coming down fo shooo...
That was the first run of the night and by the 5th run, the clutch was horrible.... she is toast.....
Nick also mentioned there might be a top speed run at the airport sometime and they would like to get 20 cars or so and organize a top speed event. I would love to give that whirl too....
Cookout/finish Nick's Drag car day/Saab meet/track day Nick vs. JZW?
