well i want to add some more things to my car, but first i want to get some help on which things i should use.
#1 Turbo (i have a td04hl-15 now) i was thinking a gt28 or a td04hl-19t
#2 FMIC (i have 28x8x3) i have no ac so i could get a bigger one. #3 oil cooler (stock) got one
#4 tires (205x60x15, i want to keep 15" rims) i want to go wider, but will they fit?
#5 guages, 6 total (i have boost and oil psi.) mayb a a/f, oil temp, egt, intake temp,...?
my goal is to have a car that doesnt have a ton of lag but still boosts up high in the revs. i want something i can drive around everyday and still have some fun on the weekends at the track.
What are your goals...do you like the look of a 15 inch rim? Or do you want to have a "as close to stock" size in vertical as you can?
Miata.net has a nice tire size calculator.
IMO that 215/45-17 tires are only a 1.01 percent increase in vertical.
A bit wider of course.
The control arms and such, as well as the dimensions on the fenders are exactly the same as the viggen so you could fit "viggen size rims" on the car (215/45-17).
Many people are running 225's but they seem to rub ever so slightly if they have a full car. Whereas the 215s don't. They work great!
However, if it's keeping it stock size (195/60-15)
you could go with a 215/55-15 and it'd only be a 0.4 percent change....which is less than the difference between new and worn tires.
A 205/60-15 like you are thinking is a 2 percent increase in vertical size.
I might also offer that a 205/50-16 is a nice balance if you are looking for "stock" sizing. It was an option for the base/SE models so obviously, that's about as "official" of an upgrade as you get!
Hope this helps. Just remember, I'm not an expert and the figures above may be slightly different depending on tread. (but not really enough to matter)
Might want to consider the GT30 turbo. Nick showed recently it spools just as fast as the GT28 and it would allow you even more upgrade room in terms of power if you really wanted to hit high numbers. Nick could custom tune you a "LPT" tune for a GT30 that could hit somewhere in the 300-400 range which is where the 19t or GT28 would get you.
Tires:
i want to keep my stock rims and get as wide of a tire i can. so you think 225s would work? i have 205s now and its alot better than the stock 195s it had.
Turbo:
i said a 19T and gt28 more for cost, i looked around and saw that getting a 19t td04 made up awould be about the same as a gt28 but then i wouldnt need to change out the exhaust. right?
Do not get a 19t, and no matter what you do, you should get an exhaust before anything including DP if that is what you mean? Or are you referring the the exhaust housing of the turbo?
Good enough then. I have the 18t-6 on my viggen with a custom tune from Frank, and if I could do it all again I would gone a different route for sure (got bored after a week or so). The 19-t will kill your egt's as it's just not very efficient at all. Go big my man.
But if you do go that route, get the 18t and you will need to find the exhaust housing (6cm) off a 94-98 9000 aero.
i was looking around and it would be about 650 to get a 19t wheel made and i still need the turbo, i have one off a viggen.
so i think ill go with the gt30. but now do i need a new DP and exhaust mani? or will the gt30 fit to the stock mani with out hitting anything? i have the V1 DP from nick.
what type of injectors should i use with a gt30? i want a mild tune. 300-320 to the wheels.
after talking to jak i think im going to go for around 350whp. with a gt3071
i just got the oil cooler in.
me and jak should be working out something with the injectors and tune, mayb even a new manifold. also im going to get the tune set up to run water/meth.
i hope the banjo bolt will fix the small leak i have.
