Gt2871 to Gt3071 comparison ;)

Swapped the Gt2871 .64 to the Gt3071 .64 Today.. Made sure base boost was same setting and got a new run with the 28 to make sure we were in the same game. The runs were done with same oil temp, coolant temp and pretty close together. Took about 2 hours for everything start to finish.. Had to let it cool after the first runs.

I guess you could say its a little better. 450whp with a conservative 10% loss makes for 500hp!

Few more here: http://genuinesaab.com/gallery/Gt3071-500hp
Still grinning

Why what did you do?

Oh and huge thanks Nick for sending out that bolt so quick. Got the car put all back together today after the school threatend to tow my car. Had to make it a personal day but I'm done having to worry about it. I officially hate the top left ac compressor bolt with a passion..............as do my hands.

That is great to see, still want that .86 ported turbine housing? Thats good for another 35whp

I can't wait to get to the potential of my gt3076, with new back-plate I am leaned out to 12.5/1 and don't want to go anymore, that is with 23psi

Great job, can you overlay for spool-up comparisons?

Thanks,

John

From the looks of it no one should install a GT28. The GT30 gives more horsepower with quicker spoolup.

Here is some more data. Being less than 100% we had the primary manifold pressure hose not quite plugged in. For the first runs.. but we can look at manp2 which is at compressor outlet.
Now for the run details.
1: adapted and through the remus 2-3/8" catback. I like the sound and it keeps the neighbors happy. more on that in a sec
2: open at the catback, through our standard 3" cat and the reducer to stock catback.
3: gt28 base boost check
4 gt30 base boost check / get to full operating temp. He cut it a little short but it was the same up. Followed by some romping to get everything hot like before.
5 gt30 r1
6 gt30 r2
All runs start at the exact same mph. Steve bumped end cutoff down too much cleaning up the data.

Here are all the runs Makes 130whp on 11psi

Interesting is the difference with the 2-3/8 catback in place. Mostly helps with spool. On the overshoot in spoolup it is about 7% difference and 1-2% at higher revs. Not very much if you ask me.

You can see a little tuning of the boost controll is needed since we are not pushing this turbo so hard. Base boost and wastegate are the same.

That is great pulls there, I see the two runs now. I found a tear in my bov diaphram and I hope that is most of my problems... Great job, I bet it was spinning in third on the dyno eh...

Can the Gt30 be mounted to the stock manifold the same way the Gt28 can?

If not its a deal breaker.

If so, then I would put one in place of the Gt28 if I could tune it to cap boost/power to the goals I had for the GT28.

Nick, which would be the ideal turbo for the B202 engine with a B212 head? Still the GT30? It is for a rally application so boost levels will be lower but spool up is critical.
