evo 16g/18g/20g?

im in the market for a 900 turbo and im wondering do people ever do the evo 16 18 or 20g turbo upgrades? without building the motor just tuning and hardware... im not sure how much power the stock motors can hold but its the 2.0 i believe t5 motor coming in the car and im wondring whats the biggest turbo upgrade you can buy without building the block? ive always liked the 20g so thats why im asking.

Are you looking for a direct bolt on turbo?

Typically people swap the stock T25 for a Mitsu TD04 off a later year 9-3/viggen/9-5 Aero or go with a Garret GT bb turbo.

The 2.0/2.3 t5 blocks are pretty tough. There are numerous members on here making 400bhp on stock pistons, rods, etc.

There are people with GT3071's, GT3076's, And a couple with GT35's.

Kaylan has a GT35 on her 9000 and it's putting down ~600hp. (Same engine block in the 9000)

Then you'll want to go with the TD04 from a 9000 aero, viggen, or 9-5. Direct bolt on, don't even need to mess with lines really.

Or you can go with the big T28 upgrade that Jak Stoll does.

If you go with anything bigger than a TD04, you'll most likely need larger injectors. And unless you want to pay $1000 for a custom tune, I'd suggest talking to the tuners to see what kind of stage-tuned files they have for what turbos.

td04....i always thought the td04 would max out at like 320hp...i still have 730cc injectors from my srt-4 i had but im sure 730cc is overkill. the srt-4 came with td04 but with its own style manifold. how much would the td04 from the new saabs cost and how does it compare to the big t28?

The TD04 is much much cheaper and easier to find than the T28. Performance wise they are about the same.

how much psi would you need on the td04 to make 350hp? do you need water injection or timing control to reach this? im not sure but on saabs do people use safcII to control fuel or can you just program the ecu? the car im getting comes with a stage 3 norbic or w/e ecu

You wont see 350hp on a TD04.

To get to the 300+HP range you need a larger turbo. GT30 or larger, which will need custom manifold, or some minor modifications.

Palmer is running a GT3071 in his 9-3. I think he had to ditch the A/C to get it to fit, and he dynoed 340hp.

IIRC Palmers GT30 is on a stock manifold with a spacer to put it out a little farther from the block.

There was a group buy of manifolds from BoostFactory! a little bit ago... and GenuineSaab has their top-mount manifolds.

You can put any turbo on the stock manifold assuming its a t25 flange and can make it fit in there.

You can get to the 320hp with a td04 thats been rebuilt to a larger wheel but it a.) has to be the 6cm2 exhaust housing from a 9000 aero (your srt-4 had a td04 with a 6cm2 housing but it was part of the manifold cast) and b.) you'd have to have the 2.3 motor insted of the 2.0 motor for the displacement to go with the boost.

Check out my site: www.ericsaabsite.com It will give you pictures and walk throughs of the different stages and upgrades possible. Along with the turbo you will want to upgrade the intake, intercooler and downpipe to get over 300 hp. But if you are buying a stage 3 Nordic Saab it should already come with those. 300 hp is typically the magic number. It can be reached with simple bolt ons, but to get above it requires a custom turbo setup.

I still have the A/C. You have to modify the bracket for the compressor.
