err whats a Speed3 first??

edit: ok did some research... i think you mean a Mazda3 right? They are pretty anaemic basic cars... The top of the range Mazda3, the SP23 (as from the Oz mazda website and I assume is similar specs in the USA) is only rated at 115kW and 203nM torque... the Viggen is 165kW and 350nm torque, It is a no brainer really... Viggen will whomp the Mazda3 and the Viggen is a much nicer car.

Easy choice.

Viggen.

Its a much nicer car, not a performance based version of an economy car.

All depends on what you want.

Sab, I guess you don't get the MazdaSpeed 3 down under, but here it's a 6speed, LSD equipped, direct injection 2.3L turbo with 260HP and 280 lb-ft of torque (191kW, 380 N-m). It's a very quick and fun to drive car, without many of the weaknesses of the old 9-3 chassis.

The Viggen is more unusual, and certainly a nicer interior, and a little more under the radar. But that is a tough call...on paper the cars are similar, with the Mazda having the performance edge.

I say drive both and see which one you like better as a driver...

If you were going to spend the money, why not get the Mazda 6?

Cheers 8 Valve for the clarification! Nope... don't get the speed3 here, I guess that is why i was a tad confused! Decent specs on the hp and torque for a Mazda.. strewth! So is the Speed3 a FWD or AWD?

bah... it is still a Mazda tho!

I stand by original choice of Viggen

Viggen can be had for less money. Then you should be able to afford nice upgrades and improve it's performance until you have a shit eating grin.

FWD vs FWD
I'd go viggen.

But a speed6 can be had for a pretty reasonable price as well, and they are AWD. Just sayin.

my buddy has a speed3.

in all honesty, it is well worth the 22k (an approximation, i dont know the exact number) he payed off the lot. the interior is comfy and not all that cheap, and the power is very very good. it pulls really hard on the highway, and in all honesty would most likely easily walk away from my vig.

i would test drive one. obviously yes a viggen is rarer and will cost you less, but i have had thoughts of buying a 3 unfortunately.

My buddy pikt up a brand new speed6 for less than that, after some discounts and stuff, but he got a hell of a deal. It pulls very well on the highway as well. One of those cars that it is way faster than it feels, very smoove.

tough call

I really like both cars, and I'm obviously partial the to the vig, but allow me to play devil's advocate. Mazdaspeed Protege's have kept their value like crazy, I expect the same of the ms3. Also, I'm not positive but I think my car was a little faster than a stock vig when it was tuned to stage 3, and I was dead even with a MS3 on the highway.

I just wish they offered the ms3 with the sedan body, the hatchback is nice but a bit... ugly with that bulge of a hatch. I don't know what kind of tuning options they have, but it's certainly rare and funky and similar to a saab in some ways. Really for me it'd come down to the fact that I love saabs and viggens are downright beautiful.

If money is an object I vote Viggen. (and you like working on and tweaking cars)

If money is no object I vote MS3. (and you like going to the dealer and saying, "I don't know what is wrong but it's not right... fix it!")

A new car is a new car.

The MS-3 is a LOT for the money and its pretty quick. Please note that from a roll the two cars are pretty close. I think Moski with an IC and maybe a downpipe put a car or two on one from a roll.

For $10k used a Viggen is for me. But if I had to have a new car the MS-3 is perferable to anything Saab has new.

All the new Mazada Speed cars (with the direct injection turbo) have BIG time issues with fuel dilution in the oil. If you're going to get one of those cars, get ready to change your oil every 2k miles or so. Unless you want your engine to blow up. :S

We had one of the MS3 on the dyno it put down some pretty good power. The Mazda wheels look pretty Saab anyway.

MS3... hands down. Even the base model cars are pieced together very well. Fit and finish is well beyond what an "economy" car should be.

MS3 IS SICK. My cousin in law is gonna buy one when hes down with school but i would choose a viggen over it because i love saabs but the mS3 is fast man for a FWD. 260 at the crank.

Viggens usually make 210-225whp so the cranks numbers wind up being very close to the MS3. Viggens make more tq, plenty of guys have shown 260-275lbs tq to the wheels which blows away 280 crank for the Mazda.
