Intake Q:

Want to keep stock airbox but want that neat intake sound. Sold intake + filter to a friend. Removed the snorkel from the box - was thinking about cutting the front end of the bottom part of the intake off. What risk would there be doing this? Would it be safe? I've been trying to think about it logically - people have open air intakes - it couldn't possibly be any more of a risk than that. At least I can't image it being such...

Discuss!

Does everyone understand what I'm saying?

As long as the panel filter is in place, and sealed correctly, you should not have any issues.

It's basically an open air...

Would it be a waste of time though? Estimation on volume?

I say go for it.

I bet it would be a *bit* louder.

Keep in mind if you cut the bottom off the airbox, that's where the sound is going to go...out the bottom.

You should cut out the top. And just bypass the whole filter thing. That's a HUGE restriction.

Thom, I did pretty much what you're describing in my 94 n/a.

I cut the entire bottom out of the airbox and ran a K&N panel filter. Noise wasn't much louder, probably because the car was n/a.

Hell why not just take off the entire intake? Cut a hole in your hood...Ram Air.

I put a 3in tube on the front of my box. Cut off the old one and cut it out to a full 3 inches. Then with a decent amount of plastic weld and some black paint, made it look stock.

The sound was great. I had it paired up with a k&n filter. I could get it to whistle in the bottom of second. And past a bus stop that i go by while leaving school... I got a few looks. :P
