ok, anyone want to fill me in on this.

my friend just bought a 99 9-3, we ran a carfax on it, and it is a LPT, yet it still has a boost gauge.
we put the tech2 on it and got 3 fault codes, mapsensor, running lean, and i dont recall the last one. he refused to let me fix anything for fear that the car would slow down.

anyways, heres the good part.
i work at a saab shop so i can identify a T25, and thats it... other then its performance i have no reason to believe it is anything else.
it will not hit full boost until 3100 RPMs, wont really boost at until 2700 RPMs, and holds the boost all the way to redline, most of the time stock pressures, but it pulls hardest at 4500-6k. it has the crappy double pass IC and all that, and i have seen it walk all over a 9000 Aero 5 speed. the car is possessed, the turbo housing appears to be a t25,but im wondering if it has stock internalls as i dont believe a t25 should be this laggy.
it almost feels like it would stomp my 91, and with tuning and a real intercooler it prolly would.
any ideas?
JP

he wont let me, and i dont really care because its not my loss, but turning a 3000 dollar car into a 500 dollar car isnt something i do on a regular basis.

I'm sorry but your friend is not very smart. Ask him how fast his car will be when it is sitting in his garage, blown up.

sounds like it boosts like my LPT.

Starts spooling 2700ish, full bust by 3400, and holds till red line.

well, my 91 9k did 205 Whp and 277 wtq bone stock, and it feels like that 185hp LPT would keep up with it, in its tuned state.
i understand that the boost gauge in his car doesnt mean anything, but it does hold right in the red/yellow border and feels very powerful at high RPMs,
maybe i just havent driven my car in a while, but i really think his 9-3 has the wrong turbo or something.

Hmmm, somebody mention the weird transition period again. So 1999 was a 9-3, but was T-5 right? The 9-5's were T-7, and then ALL saabs were T-7 from 2000.

Am I right?

If it's T-5 it could easily have a MBC.....

right Tboy.

1999 9-3 = t5
1999 9-5 = t7
1999 9-3 viggen = t7
2000+ all = t7

those 1999 9-3 are special. I like em. especially the 3 door.

Deffinitely sounds like it may have recieved a t28 build into the t25 housing. No way a stock LPT would pull in that rev range. LPT had the boost gauge in the dash, thats how mind started out as, and should hit 12 psi spike and settle to 10 psi and hold to red line assuming no knock. There is also probably a tune/MBC in it as well.

Clue him in that if it's lean and has a faulty map sensor not fixing it will make it slower..........

With a MAP error code and lean conditions, it could have that stupid ebay resistor thing. To trick the MAP in seeing less pressure so the ECU will allow it to boost to "stock" levels which might be 15+psi. Bad thing is though that its getting stock boost level fueling which is why its running lean. That would also cause for a latter than normal max boost as its acutally making more than it should stock.

Is it true that stock T25 doesnt hold boost till redline? and boost cuts off at 5500 RPM?

I am only running stock boost.

My gauge (dash one) stays in/on the red till I shift (almost never more than 5700.

It feels like it holds.

if its tuned, you can run more boost. My stg4 allows about 25-27 psi (on a td04), but would certainly overspool a T25 given the chance
