Viggen Coilovers...

So I have been playing with the coilovers or I should say custom spring setup all around and have a good idea from calculations what we need to have to balance the car. Funny thing is saab did not follow the convention when they did the viggen suspension.. I wanted to try the same ideas as they did. Problem is that springs to "try" are not in the budget. I had some close maybe 150 pounds too hard and an inch long but hey.. Now it drives great, launches awesome and looks downright silly.
Funny part is that the rear is not much higher than a regular 900 except the front is quite low.

I hope to have a chance to finish all the calculations and see how it goes.

Are you sure you're looking at the right pics?
That rear end is jacked up. Nick, I'll spot you for some additional spring combos if I get royalties on the final product

Corner weighting and getting custom springs to match can make a world of difference! I imagine the low front high back setup helps with launching!

Yea, that is what Jak was thinking for drag racing, stiffer and higher in the back probably helps in the weight transfer in launching. I found full firm in the rear and almost full soft in the front helped me a lot in my 60' times.

Ok so I flogged it all weekend. Very fun. Completely different mannered car. I have not even installed the correct springs or started going down in rear ARB. At the cornering limit the brakes no longer bring the car around. It is also has much more acceleration traction cornering. I will throw these in the back of the nira car when we go to the drag strip.

After testing a few more combinations of springs.. I can change the rears in about 15 min.

Here is the final track setup. The fronts are about the low limit. Will have to raise it a little to soften the springs and keep it from rubbing.

Nice simple setup in the rear. Works very well. I want to do a couple more one off customer cars before putting it in the catalog.

the front has adjustable ride height. It uses no OEM springs (none of the replacement aftermarket springs either) That is only secondary to the custom spring rates I have selected to get the car to handle.

The fronts are where they were for the 2K mile round trip to Michigan and the track day up there. No rubbing. You have to understand that the springs are much harder than stock so there is less bump travel.

I think the adjustability in ability to corner weight/fine tune is the main benefiet. I think in many coil over setups you can adjust ride height as well. So thats a big plus.

Are you using a similar rear set up to the VW-A/MK4 setup, i.e. a treaded purch for 'factory-type' springs...note the threaded purches in the center of the image below:
