cam vs. cam vs. cam

Some mod T7 cars with cams from a T5.

I can't find the post, but someone wrote they had something 202 (?) cams in their T5.

Are there older cams we can retrofit into a T5 a-la T5 cam into T7?

Theoretical or real gains?

Sorry if it's something I missed in older threads....

The changing of a cam to one with a different lobe profile changes the duration for which the valves stay open. Also, if the profile of the cam lobe changes significantly you'd need software re-mapped to make it work efficiently if not work at all properly (depending on the lobe profile and how upset it made any version of Trionic).

Yeah, I realize the need for new software.

I'm looking at things to horde if I decide to go whole-hog on a rebuild.

Well pick your cam after your turbo because its gonna help your turbo out the most if the cam matches. If you have a top heavy turbo then you want a cam that will keep the valves open longer at higher speeds to keep the flow up.

Exactly, this brings me back to the first post as I don't know diddly squat about older Saabs.

You'd have to talk to Nick or somebody at Maptun (hell anybody that has good knowledge of cams) about what your wanting power wise and turbo wise and then let them know what profile options you have and then they could suggest the best one to go with.

Nick remommeds T5 ( as so a lot of tuners) regardless, it moves the tq and hp up and lets teh car breath more up top. Teh T7 cams always seem to run out of steam up above 4800 RPM

There are soem other options but it all depnds on what you are after in terms of performance

Your t5 cams should be fine for 400hp unless you want gobs of top end. Then you need the milder set I sell.
