Exhaust System for 900's

I've seen it somewhere before, and always thought this would be a cool addition for the car....a "Dual Exhaust".

I've been thinking about duplicating the current 2.5 off a 3inch cat/resonator. I have the 3 inch dp, and cat now into a 2.5inch free flow exhaust system; but how to route the 2nd exhaust pipe to the right rear is stumping me.

Does anyone have any suggestions, pictures or websites for exhaust ideas using twin pipes on a ng900?

any responses greatly appreciated..

I was also looking into this... Ive seen it done on a viggen but I dont know how they did it. I think the guy used 2 inch split after a 3 inch DP. I would LOVE to get on my viggen... keep us upto date if you find anything.

found a shop guy willing to do it on the side...apparently that "Y" is harder to create than any other part of the exhaust.

The plan is to run the Y just after my 3" resonator into 2 of the 2.5" exhaust pipes. The Y will look more like a T the way its going so far. Still talking and researching with other exhaust folks...

regards

Always been a big fan of being unique ....but here's why.

I have a 3inch dp with 3" race cat that is adapted into a 2.5 pipe with a stock resonator and a special free flow muffler from AeroTurbine. I just get tired of buying complete new systems, rather than taking advantage of what I already have.

My choices:
Buy a complete 3 inch system with a muffler I don't want
Buy a Cat back 3 inch system with a muffler I don't want
Upgrade my current system

Of course cost is a consideration, but I chose the latter, running my 3" race cat into a 3" resonator then a tee into another 2.5 Aeroturbine muffler. Just have to find a capable muffler shop.

With the larger turbo/intercooler combo, injectors, regulator, and appropriate stage ECU (somehow), exhaust will become more of an issue if not addressed soon. So here I am...

regards

I looked, and figured it would be safer to split just after the gas tank...like split from just before the rear muffler under the trunk.

That's the opinion the muffler shop gave too...was hoping to split a little sooner than that area. hmmm, gonna have to take another look..

Aeroturbine said I could also have them open up the ends..apparently the same used for the 3" ones they sell., but that's boring, and may be my only choice.

keep you posted..

Sounds really cool,

Performance wise you want to avoid the "T" shape, the "Y" will flow better.

Make sure the pipes are mandrel bent and keep the flow path as straight as possible.

They say that dual smaller pipes are better for low end torque, but still flow well at high rpms.

Dual pipes might be a really good fit for a Saab......

Take a look at this site http://www.saabspeed.org/traffar/vax...s/100_0323.htm It's in Swedish which is a bummer, 'cause I'd love to know what they are talking about! Have some great shots of a 9-3 with dual exhuasts. I think bollman posted this link elsewhere on the site, just thought I'd get it some attention here.

My big question is what kind of wheels are those on the blue one?!? That's exactly what I want for my car!

I did some looking too. Been having an e-mail conversation with the guy who's car it is in Sweden. He says they are made by ATP and the model is Razze 5. However, I can't find anyone in the US who carries them?! www.bigwheels.com has OZ Volcanos which are pretty close too.

Which are the Mille Miglias you'ree talking about, Rico?

BTW, he's looking at 500 hp at the crank by next summer.

After extended research on the subject it appears this would be a good mod on the NA cars.., and not the turbo cars apparently.

Invariably it appears the dual exhaust would disturb the backpressure, and possibly exhaust flow needed by the turbo. In addition it appears a highly tuned ECU would be needed to take advantage of it.

So decided the single 3 inch exhaust using a aeroturbine resonator and muffler will be my preferred method of addressing the increased exhaust flow needed for the next performance level I'm looking for.

to be continued...

regards
