10 Second 9-3 Possible?

Hey there, I was wondering if there has ever been a 10 second Saab. Especially a 9-3.
Here is why i'm asking; I'm starting to put together plans to make a strictly drag 9-3. It won't be done for at least 2 years, but it will be done. I want to do it because no one ever suspects us Saabers to be anything to reckon with. My goals are to get another car for a daily driver and use my current car, (1999 9-3) to convert to a full-on racer/ricer-killer. I want to run in the 10's but i don't know if it's possible since Saabs aren't the greatest in the 1/4 mile. I'm gonna keep the FWD aspect and I want the car to look stock on the outside other then the huge drag tires. I was thinking of starting around out 600hp and 2000lbs. and working from there. I know there is the 800hp SSR 9-3 that runs high tens but it's AWD, however it is still street-legal with full weight.
No, I'm not just pretending here. I actually am doing this and I would love as much input as possible.
Thanks.

Read around the site, good info from other peoples projets.

Jak has a 400+ whp car...

600 is a lofty goal.... but, anything is possible if your throw enough money at it. I am still a noob to these things, but my take is that Saabs are great from a roll, but from a dig not so much.

Good luck and keep us updated with the project.

I think 400+whp saabs are less and less uncommon by the day. I believe this site has at least 5 members with them now. 400FWHP isnt going to get you close to what you want. Im just going to wish you good luck though and tell you to be a bit more realistic. How much money are you thinking about spending? Keep us updated...

I had an old digital with no sound but the 1/4 mile time was 9.98 sec. I have the video posted at cardomain under 93nut but don't know how to post it here. The car was gutted and I had direct port NO2 with slicks.

I'd say its possible...of course with a large sum of $.

That Nordic 2.5 with the huge wing did it a year or two ago.

Thanks for the compliment. I had time and money during the 1/4 mile runs. I only ran the direct port once. It cost me my tranny I guess I was lucky thats all it cost me. New tranny and back to cruching BMWs on the autobahn. I had to sell the NO2 set up in order to ship my car BACK to Germany. NO2 in your car is a NO NO here..... Unless your only inhaling it.

Yep. 9-3's can definitely get well below 10 seconds with just a few bolt-ons and a tuner who knows what they're doing.

See?

I imagine Per's rallycross and PP 9-3's could do it.

All I can say is good luck. 9-3's are hard to turn into good drag cars without a big budget.

I don't have much of a budget as I am in college right now (UTI) but I am planning on doing most of the work myself. I ran my stock car at the strip once before and my best run was 15.4 / 92mph so I think I can do 10's with some work.

Sure, just change the drivetrain to RWD or AWD.

Yeah, its should really be a really easy, inexpensive project Seth. Just be sure to do it ALL yourself. Don't let anyone discourage you!

Agreed. Mid engine swap is where it's at.

If you can run 10s for less than $5000 I'll be impressed.

edit: Hell if you can do it at all I'd be impressed! Seeing as how some very big budget/high resource Saab racing and/or tuning companies have not been able to do it.
