new brake kit for viggens

saw this at G9, wonder if they will be doing a kit for non-viggen models, too?

Why would this only fit a viggen? is it a matter of clearing 17 inch wheels, or something else?

also, they don't say how much the replacement rotor will be without the hat section. Still, nice to have another option besides the kits that go for 1200 and up!!!

Its for viggen only for 2 reasons:

wheel size
calipers

Correct me if im wrong but i think all you need to use those on a 9-3 would be viggen calipers.

The Viggen has the following different parts from the standard 9-3 according to the EPC:

Backing plate: 45 67 749 ( I suppose you could just not have a backing plate if you wanted.)

Brake housing: 50 84 710 (right), 50 84 702 (left) (includes caliper and slide rail)

and ...

Different pads (of course): 50 64 795


Otherwise, you should be able to adapt them to a 9-3. Also, the 9-3's in the US have different brake housings than the European models for some reason. The Viggen is the same everywhere.

There is also a difference with the pump. Nick T. was doing some experiments with both, he prefers the smaller pump on the 2.0L, gives a higher pressure and better feel on the pedal.

Yes, there is a difference with the Master Cyllinder. The Viggen got the master cyllinder from the 9-5, which is probably a bit "gooshy" as it was intended for the luxury car. Then again it probably also has more capacity for stopping a heavy car with ease.

The Viggen actually has a lot of little bits and pieces here and there which are upgraded (like a softer front swaybar, which is a better solution for handing than a harder rear swaybar, but both is nice.). That's one of the reasons it makes a nice starting platform if you want to mod you Saab ... if you can get ahold of one that is.

I wouldn't personally buy these rotors. As far as I can tell there isn't going to be any performance benefit. I don't think they are truly directional like the AP rotors which come with AP brake kit are.

Also the pedal will always feel slightly gushy with a sliding caliper. It's just the nature of the beast.
