Swap in a 2.3 or bore out the 2.0?

say I wanted to keep my 900 but wanted more oomph in terms of more displacement what would be the better solution? Boring the 2.0 and maybe using those nice new JE pistons from GS or just swapping in a 2.3?

The 2.3 is a stroked version of the 2.0

The block is the same!

I know they are...I know lol. Think of it this way. The end result is to have a 2.3 in the 900. Is it easier drop a 2.3 engine in the 900 or bore out the current 2.0?

The block is the same between the 2.0 and the 2.3.

YOU DO NOT BORE FOR 2.3

You just change the rod length.

and crankshaft

Boring it out is probably a ton more work, since you have to take the motor and have it stripped all the way down to a bare block to have it bored out that much.

Much easier to find a 2.3 crank and/or rods (not sure if the rods are acutally different or not). If you wanted a short stoke 2.2 then have it bored, but I think you'd have to bore quite a bit to get to 2.3 without stroking it (har har, I said "stroke it").

If you bore too big, how will you get the headgasket to work? How will you get a larger combustion chamber. I had a thread for some brainstorming on this a while back.

true tweek very true. I think if I go this route I'll just get a 2.3 motor and just do a minor rebuild but hey who knows.

2.3 engine build

I have a similar question, I have one "extra" 2.0 engine from a ng900,
When attempting to build a 2.3, can I reuse the head of the 2.0 liter engine?
I read already lots of threads regarding the 2.3 build, I am looking for a cost effective way to build 2.3? Thanks for any comments!

"Swap in a 2.3 or bore out the 2.0?"

What's easier?

The right answer is, neither. You sell it and buy a 9000 or a 9-5.

What are your eventual goals? High HP might be easier to get in a 2.0
