Skidplated

Finally had a chance to install that SaabSavior skid plate I got from ricot83 (thanks again!). The install ended up being a lot easier than I was trying to make it (even the unnerving part about drilling holes in the subframe).

I've gotta run to work, but here's some quick pics:

Turns out the owners manual actually is good for something:

Hooray!

that looks pretty slick. I think if i make my own, it will be a hair bigger, and include more mounting points, to possibly stiffen up the front end while protecting it. The ventilation looks adequate on it too, and the access for the oil filter looks pretty nice

my silver 9-3 is envious of yours now code...

I definitely could have benefited from one of these during the Denver blizzards last year.

Nice mercedes box

Does the oil filter access use regular sheet metal screws? Or are there threaded holes for machine screws?

Thanks, I'm flattered I'm tempted to drill another pair of holes in the plate and add two more mount points... But my front end is pretty solid now anyway

Thank ya. Actually... I might be getting into some rallycross action before too long. One of the newer members of my Huntsville car forum is trying to bring more rallycross events to the HSV area.... so I'll definitely be in on that

Additionally, I keep finding dirt and gravel roads to play on

And it wobbles to and fro. I can tie it in a knot.... fuck.

Yeah, that middle section (where the two pieces of the Saab sport catback go together) likes to hang a bit low. I've done a couple of different things to fix it but it always sags back down. Next step - fab up some more hangers. :-/

Umm. I dunno I'll find out when I change my oil and do a 110k service (yikes!) next week.

looks good, but like b dash said, id consider more mounting points, ya gotta keep in mind that if you bottom the thing out, its basically going to be supporting the entire weight of the car, not sure i'd trust those two bolts to do that...

yeah, I could see that thing just getting torn right off... the front does not really sit high enough for good solid ground outs, I think I'd probably take that thing off on a parking block.

Keep in mine that slamming that onto the ground is not just the weight of the car, but the impact load of the car on those little tiny spacers that's holding the skid plate on there. Personally, I would not want to have my car jacked up on something like that much less having an impact load landing on them.

The main thing I'm going for is protecting my oil pan, oil filter, and downpipe. This does that
