If you have the possibility to "upgrade" to a Viggen then do it!
You won't be dissapointed!

I'd do it too, provided you can find a good Viggen (mechanically and cosmetically sound) and get a good deal for your car.

It depends.

Part of me would love a 99 T-5 car to build up to 400hp and not worry about T7 or pistons.

The other part loves that the Viggen doesn't need a catalog kit, or hunt down Viggen bumpers and has the rarity and exclusivity built in.

So it depends on your goals and needs for the car.

For a lot of people the Viggen is the Halo car to have and if you can get one you will be thrilled.

For others they want to mod the crap out of a 9-3 and dont want to deal with T7 being a Nazi to producing power without software and pistons that can be finicky approaching 300whp.

I have a feeling the amount of attention the car would need would be higher than you car currently. Are you up for it financially and mechanically?

Fair question (I guess) if you haven't driven a Viggen. If you have driven one and are asking this.....DON'T buy one!

Driving one left no question in my mind....it could be nothing else but....I NEEDED one....the torque.....the feel....the sound....the smell....the look...!!!

You never did say what your car was....if it's a Porsche Carrara GT, then maybe not.

meh....

Jameson nailed it.

You could likely buy a 99 T5 9-3 and make it faster and better handling than a Viggen for the money to buy a Viggen...

but...you wouldn't have the beautiful Viggen bits...

99 T5 9-3 + b234 swap = T5 Viggen and cheaper software tunes.............just more expensive DI's and BPC's.

would you do it for yourself or just to impress other people?

if you want to impress others, get the vigg.

but if your content with knowing the performance of your car, then build up your 9-3 as a kind-of sleeper.

Interesting comment.

REALITY CHECK... very few people know what a Viggen is and probably even less care....and they're all people who know Saabs! I bought one because I like the look, sound, feel, smell, idea, concept.....not because of what others think...

When I was in the market, I was debating the same thing.

In the end, I decided to get the Viggen for a couple of reasons.
1. Most of the work is already done for me (I don't have to hunt Viggen parts to put on my 9-3).

2. Less labor cost, as most of the work is done already (see above), unless you happen to find color matching viggen parts that are mint (good luck).

3. A stock viggen motor can handle more power than most people will ever want. Sure, the t5 cars are stronger, but how many people actually have 400hp anyway? My goal was 300hp, and a Viggen works perfect for that.

4. Lastly, I'll admit it... vanity. I love having a rare car. It's almost an excuse to work on it without people (my wife) saying, "why are you dumping so much money into a regular 9-3?".
And besides... chics dig'em.

Get an OG9-3 and dump a b234 in there. Put on all the supporting mods and you'll eat viggens for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. T5 is great too

I say make a spreadsheet with the cost to do this... then you will see that a viggen is a good deal.

Then take the remaining money and use it as a downpayment to buy and income property, and have the profit pay your car payment.

My tennant pays for my car, and half of my vacation land.

And my viggen will smoke 99% of 9-3s out there...

it's really not that expensive

I just did the swap and my car right now is better than a stock viggen....Car $4000...everything else including labor $5000....I haven't seen too many nice viggens for $9k

If you want something that says "Viggen" on it than sure go ahead....but it's not worth it, you can get better/faster for less

Heres the cost to make a 99 9-3 T5 car stronger than a viggen with the stock b204 will only cost $1,021. That price includes intake, saab sport back, and Stage 2 tune all from Nick. 260hp and 289tq

http://www.genuinesaab.com/catalog/p...5ff7313c92677a

You can find 99 9-3 5spd for cheap compared to a viggen and adding those parts to the cost (excluding the cost to make the interior and exterior look like a viggen) it's cheaper and you'll still come out ahead both in payment and in a race .

If I hadn't bought my downpipe I could be on stage 2 software. Bought my downpipe instead and could be stage 3 but I'd rather be stage 4 and just need a intercooler and a td04 before I could save up for the software.
