Stage 4 Dyno Results are in

Here are my two runs...

1st run: HP 211.2 TORQUE 259.0
boost spiked at 18 psi at 3300rpm and dropped immediately to 14psi and slowly fell to 10 psi by 5500..

2nd run: HP 213.6 TORQUE 251.1
same thing happened as far as when it was at most power and boost did the same thing at the same times..

Conclusion: I am baffled to why i'm not getting the power i should. Although my torque ran what is should which was 260 (around 300 at the crank) but for some reason the hp just wasnt there.

If anyone has any thoughts to what's happening please feel free to chime in.

Current Mods:
MAPTUN STAGE 4 ECU
3" DP from JT
3" Sport cat
2.5" custom cat back
Magnaflow Muffler & Ractive Tip
Cold Air Intake w/ JR filter
Custom Intercooler
Forge BPV

With drive`train looses you should be putting down 230-240 wheel hp.
Are you using a MBC? The air/fuel gauge is nice and smooth but a bit on the lean side.

also this was a dyno jet and not a mustang dyno...

no MBC.. air/fuel is lean i know.. so using a mbc could only worsen that..

Is the fuel cutoff kicking in early?
Do you have a modded FPR?
I'm planning on the same SQR stage and I'm a little worried that the stock injectors are way undersized. With those mods, you should probaby do what the 9000 Aero guys do: move up to 39# injectors and and live with a little richness at idle...

Using the calculator found at http://injector.com/injectorselection.php you should have a max of 230 whp with 36# injectors This flies counter to what has been posted elsewhere...I thought the stock injectors and stock FPR were good up to 280-290HP

The stock fuel system on the 9-3/900SE is capable of 280 hp. Iím right on the edge of it with my 900SE. He's not hitting fuel cut, it would show as a big power dip if he did.

No, the software is programed for the stock FPR. I'm actually going to remove my crushed FPR and go back to the stock one.

whoa.....isn't that kind of counter to the whole argument about stage 4 being right on the edge of acceptable EGTs because of the reduced safety factors?

I thought the crushed FPR was more for insurance than anything else....

I'm the last person (ok, maybe second to last) who wants to see your engine go boom because I'm following your mod progression....

I need to post my air/fuel ratio for my last dyno run, then what I am saying would make more sense. My air/fuel is rich for most of the rpm range. It dips down to ~9.6:1 around 4000 rpm and curves up to 12:1 at 6000, by 7000 rpm it is approaching 13:1. Iím loosing mid-range torque because of the rich conditions. Iím reverting back to the stock FPR to bring up torque.

I am using the Aero TD04HL-15T-6cm2 Turbo.
Saab4life is using the stock 9-3 turbo.

which i assume is the same turbo.. but getting back to the matter at hand i think maybe that it could be knock limited but i wouldnt know how to correct it.. other than that i cant think of what could be going on

Hi,

If a ECU is programmed for std FPR you will not gain anything with the FPR swap. Actually there is a big risk that the engine will run leaner even though the system is running on higher fuel pressure. This is due to the fact the the trionic system will adapt to fuel pressure changes via lamba. Adaption is done under closed loop, but it has an affect to WOT also. Now if you just through in a 3.5bar FPR the ECU will adjust injector open times to achieve lamba 1under closed loop. Same adjustment will then take place under WOT.

Usully if a car is ran in a dyno, it will produce more power if A/F is slightly on the lean side, but it not to good for the engine (knock, EGT). Torque on the other hand will suffer. My car was dynoed to 294/490Nm with A/F about 0.9 and 290/510Nm with A/F <0.85.

I'm not familiar with the ECU you have, but does is have the pressure guar intact? If so max boost is slighly below 19psi (1.3bar) or you will hit fuel cut.
Spikes can go past that.

Second question, what actuator do you have? If stock it might not be capable in holding wanted boost.

Well i wanted to know what turbo you had Saab4lifebecuse almost every MapTun stage 4 requires a turbo upgrade. But in your case you don't need one because you have Saab 9-3 Aero 2.0T 205 Hp/280 Nm 2000-2004 that does not require a upgrade. I'm sure you already know this but i was not to sure myself.

It seems kinda funny how a lot of maptun ECU are messing up when first put into the car. From this i was thinking about going with SQR now.

I'm hoping that everyting is going to go well with your ECU upgrade. You might want to try posting on http://forum.saabturboclub.com. Not that TSL is not going to have people that will be helpful but its worth a try- the more people the better. Thats a big swedish forum that some of maptuns service men are also on, so that sould help you. There is only one subject post in englsih.

eric's turbo is not the same as the viggen turbo... his 6cm2 exhaust side gives better top end compared to the td04-15t 5cm2(faster spool up )

thanks for all the help.. and i do think erp has a viggen turbo because i have the TD04 15H or whatever and he has the TD04 18H i think.. thats the difference in the turbos

u misunderstood a viggen is a td04-15t 5cm
he has a td04-15t 6cm
the latter of the two is a 9000 aero turbo........ more top end

You should have the GT17 stock on car. Have you changed it with stage IV to viggen turbo TD04HL-15T? This part remained a mystery to me

If you are sitll using the GT17 then there is no way in hell that the car will ever produce 300hp no matter what you do.

Edit, I dont remember under which name the european 9-3 "AERO" was sold in the states. That model also has TD04HL-15T stock.

i am to assume that i have a td04 and not a gt17.. it just seems way to small of a turbo for me to have
