T5 Isuzu Transmission on a B204
Hey all!
I have always dreamed of putting a B2X4 in front of a rwd transmission, and preferably for cheap!! Long story short I wanted to create a resource for others so others know how to take advantage of this resource! Please correct me where i'm wrong so the community can have accurate info. So 1998-2001 Isuzu Rodeo and Amigo's that had the 2.2L 4 cylinder shared the same bellhousing pattern as the B2x4 family of motors and the 2WD were a Borg Warner T5 World Class. I did my best to confirm this and finally took the plunge and picked one up and it fits!!! Best I can tell the Hombre has a different 2.2 and therefore not the same bell housing. From my measurements the pilot bearing for the NG Saab 900 2.0's should be perfect, ordering one soon. So far the biggest obstacle I've come across is the clutch. For a B204 (which is what I got my hands on) the Clutch is a 9in and the Rodeo is a 9.5in. The Isuzu also has a 26 spline input shaft. I am trying to track down a clutch disk that is 9in with a 26 spline but that's proving more difficult than expected. Looks like a 9k flywheel and clutch may be the best bet but I haven't gotten that far yet. I hope to keep this as a resource for others hoping to put this information to use and make what so many of us have dreamed about a reality! Please feel free to correct my info and add any info y'all are willing to share! |

This is awesome information to have. A member on here had posted a picture a while ago of a transmission/bellhousing that bolted to the b2xx engines, but never spoke of what it was.

Awesome information. Pics or it didn't happen
![]() Seriously this is great stuff, and I also have that dream, but mine is installed in an Rx8. Why do you think the 9000 clutch is the right one? I have a spare clutch at home for the 900 V6 that I will go and look at tonight. I am not sure I have one from a B2xx motor. What are your plans for this drivetrain? I have also always thought it would be awesome in a small pickup truck, like S10 size. Wonderful economy and plenty of torque. |

I'm happy the word is getting around, Harvey is the guy who figured this out, i just passed the word on!
The clutch solution i have seen used is to to use a 9-5 flywheel, and pressure plate, with this disk (centerforce 23534007) the isuzu trans is 24spline, not 26 as mentioned earlier and you want the biggest clutch you can fit in there, which is a 9-5 as it will have the most holding power. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/c...4007/overview/ You may need to do some legwork to figure out a pilot bearing, as i have not solved this one yet.

Cant post pictures yet cause I couldn't get into my old account (Soab) and I don't have enough posts yet haha
Yeah the 95 looks like it has a funky pilot bearing. The NG900 has the same dimensions as the Rodeo's from what I can tell and matches the measurements I made as well (although now that I go to look up the part numbers the measurements are looking different..), the down side is it only accepts a 9" clutch and I haven't been able to find a clutch that small with the right spline count. The Thought on the 9k Flywheel was it allowed people to run a 9.5" clutch as an upgrade back in the day, though I'm trying to work with what I've got for now, not really planning on huge power yet, just trying to make it drive first. In looking briefly on Summit it looks like ACT makes a clutch disk for Subaru/Saab that has a 24T 1" input spline and a diameter of 8.85" ACT Street Clutch Discs 3000501 on Summit |

Been looking into yokes to use and I'm trying to decide whether to use the factory yoke and use an adapter u joints (isuzu uses mechanics 3r, my vehicle uses 1310) or I found a custom yoke that is the 27 spline of the t5 but already is cast for 1310. The custom solution actually appears cheaper but in reading some threads I've read that different length slip yokes can cause problems.
Anyone have any advice or experience that they could chime in on slip yokes? |

Wonder how this worked out I'm trying to do the same thing with a Volvo just because I have a 740 and a bunch of 95s and 93s. I have found many isuzu transmissions of those years but I wonder if you could supply the part number for the trans and bell housing please. i have beed beating my head against the wall over this for weeks now. Thanks in advance for any advice.
