Building my own exhaust, help!

Hey everyone! I just bought a 2002 9-3 SE convertible saab, and I'm planning on building and welding my own exhaust with a friend soon. My plan is to take a look under Sasha and take measurements to see what shape I'll need then order parts. I'm going to use stainless steel 3" diameter. I'm doing a muffler and possibly cat delete, leaving just the resonator.

Three questions I have:
1. What guage is ideal? On mandrelbends, their 11 gauge only goes up to 2", but the 14 gauge has the 3" diameter.
2. Instead of copying the current exhaust layout exactly (except larger piping), does anyone have any suggestions to improve it?
3. More of an abstract question: I like deep elegant exhaust sound and not the ricer lawnmower running over a beehive sound. Any suggestions for that?

Thanks in advance!

Don't delete the Cat unless you're tuning the car. Even then, unless you're building the engine, a 3" Summit/vibrant/Random race cat will be fine for the ~300hp you'll make.

14g seems about right. I was thinking 12, but I've never built an exhaust. thicker will sound better, and less Tin-y

The existing routing is pretty good. you could try to go under the rear beam, but you'd have clearance issues, I'd bet.
