900 Un-Natural Engine & Trans Swaps

Just bored and curious.....What are some of the oddest or coolest swaps you have witnessed someone perform on a c900?

I know one with a transversely mounted b202 and a gearbox from a 9000. There's really no point in changing the engine, it's already quite good, changing the gearbox is a better idea..

I'm curious as to how difficult it would be to take a first gen 9 engine (2.0L) and manual trans, and put them in a c900. Do you think it would be worth the trouble? I figure that modifying the inputs to the instrument panel would probably be one of the biggest challenges...but I really have no clue.

There's a C900 SPG with an LS1 running around Chicago. He's on some of the local racing forums.

Sounds like a good idea though. Can that engine/trans config actually fit into a classic 900 engine bay without a massive amount of chop-shop action apart from all the obvious stuff like re-arranging the engine mounts, wiring, coolant piping, etc. to/from the engine?

Craig.

I think the two biggest issues here for the mod would be the crank throw and the overall length of the block. Crank throw so that the trans case wouldn't be trashed by the crank, and the overall length so they bay would have some airflow available. Of course, since money would be no object in this sort of "what can we come up with" scenario, our engineering staff and foundry crew would have no problem casting a new transaxle/crankcase assy to make this a non- issue. Having said that, what were the mopar/ford/chevy engines in these mods, other than the LS1? Seem that a 2.3 L ford (used in the Lotus Elite) would be an excellent candidate as there are pile of custom heads, header, and performance parts for that particular engine.

More than enough HP attainable from the saab 4 pot to overpower the front wheels and make the car near-undriveable.

The real focus should be on adding rear-drive.

That would also be neat in a c900.

My thoughts exactly. In fact I have an SPG that I'd be willing to let people use as a test mule.
