So I'm going to do it

I'm going to start a N/A to turbo swap. Turbo engines been sitting in the garage for too long now collecting dust so I'm going to do the dirt.

ECU's are in my possession,
Turbo is in good condition
Wiring diagram is in hand (3 to be exact)
Gasket kit is being ordered and work is being done.
Oh and car hitting 200k a few weeks ago made me think a lot about it and my thought is before anything happens it's got to be done.

Things I need........ Turbo transmission from a classic 9000.

Good luck, assume the body shell is rust free is motivating the upgrade, rather than buy a different car?

Sort the brakes and suspension bushes, maybe inspect the cv joints, they will get more of a workout.

What model year 9000 are you starting with (the keeper)? What model year is the donor?
Are you transplanting the entire engine with turbo and plumbing?
Are you transplanting the entire engine management system, too?

If you want something nice, I've got one from an '87 9000T with low mileage since an Eriksson rebuild... but it's not a good fit for a low-budget project.

The engine is a 92 turbo. Mine is a 92 N/A and the turbo engine is going into the N/A body. I have the The computers and intercooler. I could use some of the couplers so I will be going to a yard soon for those. I may need a new MAF since when I bolted a turbo to my N/A, it fried. looking at the wiring diagram it seems the only thing I would need to add is the pins for the APC solenoid and maybe the air intake temp sensor as well (I honestly thought the MAF did all of that). I think this is going to be doable without changing the entire harness.

So I'm going to do it

What is your plan for dealing with TCS (ETS)?

What couplers are you referring to?

the intercooler bends are what I'm talking about. As far as the ETS goes, the computers I scavenged were from a non TCS CDE or just the CD I believe and they were already chipped.

Did some research over the weekend and came to senses that if I wanted to sort out a down pipe issue. I think I want to go 3", would it be better to fab one out now since the engine is out of the car, or should I just capitalize and buy one?

I am a firm believer in the JT 3" system for my 9000's. I just installed one this past weekend on my '93 9000. Even leaving the T25, what a difference!!!! I've usually swapped to the TD04 when I've done downpipes, but I ran into a bit of a snag this time with a broken tap in the turbo exhaust housing.... By the time I got that out I just bolted the system in and will do the TD04 another day.

I just figured that the 180* bend makes things difficult. I was thinking about making one but I thought that there would be an air flow issue with the sections that I was going to make.

Fab one! I've found a couple of components that might be helpful, depending on whether you want to go stainless or carbon steel and whether you'll use v-band clamps.

I will fab one and I was thinking of going V-Bands.

Was doing some ebaying and going through the pics in my camera I found this picture. The night I hit 200,000 in my baby and that's when I decided it was time to swap out the engine, just in case anybody was wondering.

So today while going through wiring, I did not see anything on the diagram for the boost sensor. Did pre 91's not have those?

Update status really quick before I go into work. After extensive searching through the threads I got the idea of adding pins to the harness for the boost controls. I originally was going to go with the rout of spicing the harness from a turbo onto the non-turbo (so a piggyback setup) but I wasn't sure if the color coordination was all the same. Will post pictures up Monday after I add the wires.

Quick update. I sourced out a 93 Aero transmission for my build. Going to pick it up Thursday. I can ask the guy if he is willling to part things out from the car. He's located in Tewksbery MA. Anyone need anything? I'll see what he has.
