spec 1: pressure plate likely busted

I was on the highway yesterday 75ish in fourth, shift I fifth. Not there nor is forth or third. Roll to the side of the highway, call a tow truck, kicking myself for not swapping the transmission sooner. Once I get it to the shop I take a look at it. With the clutch depressed the slave still works. With the car off the transmission shifts, with it on it won't engage any gears. Just grinds.

Sounds like the springs in the pp let go?

Can I order another spec 1 pp? Should I go with a new clutch altogather, will a stock/oem plate work?

Stg 3 9k so the power levels aren't stock

I beat the crap out of mine and they hold nice.. Only exception is when Robz gave it some love at the drag strip and we were already way over the tq for that setup. Aside from rag race it is not a problem. Also many run way more clutch than needed.

Also it comes down to price. There are alternatives but cost in the ~800 range with all the stuff. ??

I don't think the stg 1 is overkill. I've had one in my car for over two years...no issues.

I'd think Nick should be able to get you a new pp as well.

I haven't heard many negative things about SPEC clutches. Go for higher than stage 1 if your doing it all anyway.

The spec stg 1 pressure plate is just a stock genuine one painted blue with sachs sign ground off. Its cheaper to replace with aftermarket genuine part

Ok. My terminology was incorrect The pressure plate is the larger piece with the fingers, thats probably fine. I was referring to the clutch disk with the springs.

I checked spec's website they don't seem to sell just clutches, i'm going to call in the morning. Genunie sells the stage 1 @ 540 where as an oem goes for 335.

Sounds like something is wrong. One thing the spec didn't do was slip.

I think the stock pressure plate just cant hold the torque it does make quite some power its about 360 whp on dynojet.
Its bad enough that it needs to go into bin, now I need to get a sach uprated one before I put my cams in and do a final tune.

I am on my third spec clutch in 6 months. First stage 3 6-puck disk lasted one year with viggen pp and a few drag race sesssions.

Second clutch set-up was gt3071wg enem cams, new 6-puck disk and old viggen pp, new flywheel insert, light spec.

That clutch sliped from day one and never held that well at all and a few months later I put in a new flywheel insert, new spec stage 3 disk and new flywheel insert. Within 2k, clutch was slipping in second all the time and in third above 25 psi.

I now have a spec stage 3+ solid carbon/metalic disk, new flywheel insert, I will see how this one does.
