Correct, It doesn't grab all the meat of the rotor, but is further out. The outer edge of the rotor is lined up perfectly with the outer edge of the pads.

Interesting - probably stops better that way, with the extra leverage.

Tweek's Turbos 05-04-2011 01:25 PM

I wonder if my machine shop/would be a good idea to machine away the useless rotor surface, and give the rotor that train track look of the rear 300mm ones.

Get these mounted behind the stock wheels yet? Or did you not get the spacers due to using the TurboX wheels?

BurnsSide42 06-03-2011 02:53 AM

I know you have made more progress with these - post updates! This is a good possible mod for those who have this style/generation 9-5 brakes. Keep up the good work Ben!

Yes and my front rotors are warped. So looking to do this relatively soon.

Tweek's Turbos 06-03-2011 01:32 PM

I got the 5mm H&R spacers, everything seems to fit as it should. Worked out a deal with a fellow on SC, he is ordering me the tires for my TurboX wheels and I am doing the swap next weekend, when I get the tires and wheels mounted.

In between I have moved so that took up alot of time.

Me too. I am back in DC now, and jonesing for a crazy ray's run. :)

srp 06-04-2011 07:51 AM

Any idea if the 5mm spacer will work with the stock wheels? I've got some calipers coming...

Tweek's Turbos 06-06-2011 03:04 PM

I can find out tomorow.

k1llsh0rty 06-10-2011 11:59 AM

thats it! im gonna figure out how to make this work for the older models indcluding my Viggen! this is such a cheap and awesome mod, it has to be done!

132417SAAB 06-10-2011 02:17 PM

just gotta make brackets for the calipers. no different than putting any other custom or aftermarket caliper on (actually it's harder since these calipers are not radial mount. something like this: Wilwood High Performance Disc Brakes - Caliper Product Number: 120-11329 would be easier to make brackets for)

Tweek's Turbos 06-10-2011 04:20 PM

For you ng900/9-3 guys, take a look at Philip's site.

As for now, the car is sitting on stands at the fh parking lot, pwrshft from SC is coming down with my tires in exchange for my 17s.

Castor Troy 06-15-2011 12:42 PM

on the diagram of the rotors, when it says "height" is it referring to size from the back face of the rotor to the front face of the hub?

i am trying to work out something custom for a buddy with an SS

srp 06-15-2011 12:44 PM

45.3 mm is just over 1-3/4 inches. I'd imagine its from the back of the rotor to the top of the hub.

Tweek's Turbos 06-15-2011 01:02 PM

Waiting on longer lug bolts. The stockers were about an inch in the threaded portion. Took 7 turns to remove, when the 5mm spacers were added, took only 3-3.5 turns.

The choices were 29mm or 35. I went with 29 since that was the closer number to the size I need.

Castor Troy 06-15-2011 01:18 PM

tweek, from your understanding, is the hub diameter (65.6mm vs 70mm) the only reason that the cobalt rotors wont go onto the saab?

Tweek's Turbos 06-15-2011 01:45 PM

From what I gather, in the SC thread, one of the fellows talks about actually having 1mm on non used outer pad. And he would be scoring a set to machine.
