Post What do I need to build my 9-5

I am looking to upgrade the turbo. My car is a 01 Saab 9-5 auto with 93k on it. What are my turbo options and what parts do I need to put it all together? Looking to put 230-250 to the wheels. I know I need a tune to go with the turbo but I'm going to start putting the parts together to get it ready to be done.

Nicks "GS" Down pipe would help out, your going to have that off anyway while your doing the turbo. Reflash Brain,+ Pipe & turbo and you should be right where you want to be.

Ok I understand that. What I need is specific parts that go with the turbo ie flanges coolant lines things like that. Also besides a TD-04 is there another turbo I can use?

Your going to need two more m12 banjo bolts for the tdo4 swap. These are 10-15 bucks from saab, Large fuel filter washers work for a Cheap swap using the gt17 lines. the Gt17 lines are m13 as opposed to the lines for the tdo4 being m12. Or you can just get the correct lines for the tdo4. The correct lines are the best bet, but some times you can just make do with the large fuel filter washers if your on a Budget.

If you go with a TD04-15t be careful if you buy a used one from a recycle yard...I am on my 4th attempt trying to get a decent used one (they seem to misunderstand what grade A means...I also recommend rebuilding it while it is out of the car (40 dollars worth of insurance)...

Anyway here is what I did for engine tuning:
Well maintained 160K engine (this is most important part, if you have mechnical issues these need to be fixed first)
BSR Stage 1 (you must have some sort of tuning or a new turbo or mods will do nothing)
2.5 sport exhaust
Custom K&N intake
Udated CCV kit (this is a must) probably should pull you valve cover and check for sludge

Project this fall
3 inch downpipe
TD04-18T
Upgrader Fuel pressure regulator
Upgraded Injectors
Re-tune
2008 Saab 9-5 aero interior (yes it fits minus the dash

I also have a 2001 Saab 9-5 that I have been tuning for 6 years now...the GT17 is actually a decent turbo, very little lag, it just peaks out pretty fast.

I already did the update for sludge or the pcv kit and I have a genuine Saab sport filter just need exhaust and turbo I guess. Also I would have the turbo rebuilt no question on that. So would you recommend the gt-17 or td-04? Also I plan on going to a shop to get my tune that way if any issues they can fix right there on spot.

If you want more HP I would get the TD04-15T or 14t and a downpipe...no reason buying a GT-17 if you want to go over 250HP...that pretty much is maxing out the GT17...does anyone know if the later 2.3t engines 260HP version has a larger downpipe ? I know the pre turbo pipe is bigger ? You may also want to look at getting a later model turbocharger (TD04HL-14T) think it is almost the same HP potential as the TD04HL-15t...that way you can get a low mile one and does not need to be rebuilt...there are a few here
