Yeppers...I hear ya.

Next family vehicle will probably be an Ovlov or a Ford for exactly that reason. I'll probably have a couple of DD Saabs as commuting beaters, but family car will probably not be straight outta Trollhattan...

If you want to see what I think is the real interesting part...check out the camshaft design.

Quote:
The starting point for these new cams is a steel tube, over which the individual cam lobes are installed. The parts are placed together in a forming die that accurately orients the lobes and the bearing surfaces before the tube is filled with a high-pressure burst of water. At over 58,000 psi, the pressure from the water expands the tube, forcing it together with the lobes to create the complete camshaft.

Ok, so I have had this for two tanks of gas now, and I'm getting pretty used to it. It's pretty nice. Seats are just great, one-touch on all the windows, bluetooth, all that stuff. It also rides almost perfectly. Smooth over bumps...yet taut, so it's not feeling like it's flopping all over the place and it corners very well. Got 25mpg average on two tanks, and that was with the roof rack on. Pretty impressive. One of the nicer feeling cars I have ever owned.

Now for the bitching:

-Stereo sucks many balls, might have to put my mild 10" sealed box in the trunk. I don't want to rattle windows or anything, I just want it to sound balanced. There is no bottom end of any kind, and when you crank it up, the radio pulls the bottom out to prevent distortion.
-I can hardy hear the engine-E46, you can hear that shit all the time. It's never obtrusive or anything, it's just a nice growl. This car, you only hear it about 4500 or so, when you have your foot in it. Going to have to fix that, probably with an intake of some sort...of course, I have to find one that does not cost $400. Jeez.
-Drive by wire laggy throttle thing. Annoying. Press, wait, accelerate.
-Not as much steering feedback as I would like.
-putting a key in a slot, then starting the car via a button is the dumbest shit ever. It should either be an actual key, or one of those transmitter deals you keep in your pocket.

In a nutshell, it's enough of the things I like about the E46, plus a few others. The positives outweigh the negatives.

Plans are to get winter tires for the 16" wheels that are on there now, then find some rad 17"-18" wheels for summers. Maybe a drop (via springs, no coilovers) if I can find something that looks good, and rides ok.

Forums are a great way to find an intake from a lease return for at least half off. Allofcraigs.com is good too.

Check out e90post.com

That's where I've picked up all of my second hand shit for the 335. They have the classified section well organized.

Check it out, non-shitty looking summer wheels!

18x8 ET20 "style 123" off of a 5-series "sport" model. Came with some nice pirellis too. Super happy with how they look!

Thanks!

Yeah, the suspension is stock. I was going to lower it, but it looks good enough for me.

Every non-X E90 had an awesome stance. (For a stock car)

Parked my buddies '08 328xi next to a 328i and there was a surprising difference in the ride height.
