Boston can be the same. 50 min drive at 0500, 2-2.5 hour drive at 0700.
Maybe I should pass on the TX idea. My brother just got a 4cyl XWD and loves it but then again he commutes a couple towns over down in Mass.
My only saving grace would be the other vehicles are usually driven everywhere else; I typically only drive the viggen to and from work..... Since any replacement would be for that commute, I want the girl transmission and I think have the sports sedan bug again...dammit! Don't want another 2.8 auto FWD aero in the driveway, one is enough. This is quite a conundrum, not a big fan of non aero/vector/TX.

Hey Sean - A few things to add.
1) My commute is not just highway cruising at 70mph- it's through some of the worst traffic in the nation (Seattle traffic was ranked #4 or #5 worst in the US a few years ago). My commute should take less than an hour with no traffic - it often takes more than an hour and a half one way. Last week it took 2 hours in the afternoon. Stop & Go traffic is essentially "city" driving - which the Turbo X does not exactly shine.
True highway cruising I averaged 27-28 - but that never happened on my daily commute.
2) I do much more driving than just to work. My commute consists of less than 1300 miles a month, but I've been averaging at least 2000 miles a month.
3) I drive like a car enthusiast. I like to hear the rumble of the exhaust. I punch it on onramps. I push the corners. I drive in Sport mode. I like to enjoy my car.
Those items added up to a pretty high monthly fuel bill for me. Your mileage may vary

Holy crap Joe; what a shame. I've been toying with the idea of that exact car to replace the viggen. I'm also considering a new job that puts me at around 100 miles a day commute; all the way through Boston, I want the girl transmission. Hey, live in NH and want to make the bigger money, I gotta drive. Sucks but true for me at least.
You said your new job was 80 miles a day, 4 days a week, and you averaged 21mpg? Did I misread that and your job is 80 miles from your home making it 160 per day? Just running the numbers it came up to half of the 500 you were spending at $3.90 per gallon of precious 93.
If it's 80 miles from your home, you're a champ. Just trying to get my head around what the fuel costs would be of the job I'm going after (I did this: ((100M/day X 20 days/month)/21mpg) X @$3.90/gallon = $371 just for commuting, nothing else included). It's a bit much, but I need to ENJOY those 50 mile per way commutes; and having AWD is a nice addition. Plus I I've wanted one since release. But, 21mpg isn't much better than my AWD pickup getting 16 average on regular.

|Turbo00||Sorry to see it go, but not surprising on fuel costs. My wife's aero (fwd) gets 24 on average with a very light foot. The 2.8 is thirsty mistress.|

|Saabeh||$500 in gas per month, holy crap/|

Welp, sent this car off to it's new owner yesterday. It was an incredibly satisfying ownership experience, but with my new job and the commuting I was doing, I couldn't justify the $500/month gas bill any longer.
(Not kidding - last month was $501)
So, I bit the bullet and bought a MPG commuting appliance which I'll post up for S&G in another thread.
Bottom line: I love the Turbo X especially in SportCombi form. It's an incredible machine and I'm so glad I owned one. If the circumstances had been different I would have loved to keep it long-term. But for rush-hour traffic, I don't exactly need Haldex XWD and a turbo v6 to carry around!

I am taking my old man off the road in the next 12-18 months, taking his car as my own lol.
I will keep it for awhile, maybe throw a tune on it lol.

i love it.
i need to find me one of those and trade out my 2008 sport sedan.
and i agree the Manu-Matic shifting is crap.

would love to find a 9-3SC for the lady, and she's dead set on a manual trans. But it would have to be a 2.0 and FWD. Good luck finding that right?
The 21 MPG would not work for her/us at all.
Still love nearly everything about the TurboX SC though! It's prolly kinda like a supermodel though. You gotta love the idea of it, but might have a tough time dealing with it everyday

|Viggen Dave||I've been toying with the idea of getting one of these to replace my 5-door Viggen. I have a long commute, too, so the 21 mpg isn't great. Do you run 93 octane?|

|Saabeh||I drove a sedan 6 spd a couple days ago. I was really surprised how stiff it was, felt almost like my Viggen! But the seats were much more plush so that was satisfying.|

Quick update: I've had this car for almost 6 months now... Here are my impressions.
-I started a new job which is further away, so my commute has stretched to ~80 miles a day, 4 days a week. I'm at 54,XXX right now so I'm putting quite a lot of miles on this car.
-I'm getting about 21MPG mixed city/highway.
-Pretty much ready to pull the trigger on a tune once I do my 60k tuneup.
-Bought new plugs last week, the "better performing" IHK22 which I will install in preparation of the tune.
-I love it all except for the radio. The CD changer controls are annoying, and it's ugly.
-Handling belies the cars heft
-The twin-floor of the sportcombi is incredibly useful. Love it to death.
-6-speed auto in sport mode is actually VERY satisfying... paddle shifting is worthless.
As far as maintenance, I did an oil change and I replaced the rear pads. I was very happy to see the design of the rear brakes, it does not use the mini brake shoes inside the rotor, but the e-brake actuates the caliper.
Lastly, a Toyota Yaris bumped me on a Friday afternoon commute.
The only real damage was to the Turbo X specific rear valence... And to my surprise, they are in stock in the USA. Wow.

Really diggin this thing!

|DeLorean||Nice car, could not deal with an AT though. If I could find one with an MT, I'd trade for the STI and keep the extra 12K it's still worth... Subaru resale value FTW.|

|SPG-GASM||I want your steering wheel.|

Snapped some pics of the interior.

I didn't eralize they were so "inexpensive" now.
(that's the price of a 06 Aero 'vert in some cases)
Weren't they ~50k originally?
gotta love the saab resale!
