Adelaide Radio Guy I just bought the 4cyl petrol 9-5 (Australian version) and I have to say I am impressed. It's my third SAAB, my previous car from new was a Jaguar X-type. The drive is good but a little harsher than the soft ride of the Jag. The power is much better and all the gadgets are great. Lovely sound system, heads up display works well and the quality of the seats are great. There are not many on the road here so it stands out, but doesn't have that wanky tag like a BMW, Merc, Jag or Lexus. The size of this car is just amazing, but it doesn't drive like a big car. My only complaint is that the auto headlights are not really automatic. Auto just means headlights on all the time - shame. The electronic handbrake and keyless entry are fantastic and the green ambient lighting in the cabin at night is impressive. All up, I am really happy with this car.

It's coming, 2012 9-3 will be what you're looking for. At what price who knows. I think the new 9-3 will come as a hatch, a vert and sedan. I hope they don't bring a wagon instead of a hatch but that's possible. Car will be the first Saab built by Spyker alone, probably with a BMW engine.
Patience.

bruceinmiami If there's one thing spyker knows, its how to do a gorgeous interior.
The car looks great otherwise.

JLausch I agree, Spyker claims to be working on interior upgrades, which are the major complaint of most reviews, luckily, interior trim upgrades should be one of the easiest things to do, but like you said, its by luck that the car even made it to production, and spyker hasn't even had time to do anything. I'm optimistic still, and its already a great car, and its flaws are not critical ones.

The Audi is a kinda a joke too, should be compared to the 3.0t quattro, the 3.2 is fwdlol only iirc. All of these cars are pretty much base, where the aero is equipped at a higher tech level. I'm not saying it's a steal, but i think it could be successful with some simple tweaking.
I think by 2011-2012 it will see some nice interior upgrades. Look, it's amazing the car exists at all. The new owners haven't had the time yet to address all of the complaints I see. I know the risks of early adoption and I couldn't be happier with the car. I had a blast driving it home tonight. I think as time goes on we will all be impressed with what's in store, especially given the last few years(GM).

I just talked with the service manager at the dealership I bought the car from. Apparently the car will tell me when to change the oil. There is a display function that indicates the lifespan of the oil quality. Right now I am at 70%. The car uses Mobil One full synthetic rated for 12k. I will stay with the service schedule Saab recommends and get the free service at 10k or when the car tells me it's time. I didn't make myself clear, I don't intend to keep it much past warranty.

I hate to jinks myself but yes 3800 trouble free miles. No issues, not even a ding(now I've gone and done it). I have become completely addicted to the HUD as well as "sport" mode, although in my last 2 Aeros I always used 'sport' as well. I am not sure if I want to change the oil at 5k or go with the Saab recommended 10k service. I am not planning on keeping the car for 100k mi or more, but I have always change the oil at 5k intervals.

Well thats good, because it looks like it should drive like a barge. I've seen one around the DC area, and it looked enormous compared to previous Saab models. I did like the styling, just wish they'd made it a tad smaller. Guess we can't all have it our way

gm really needs to engineer their chassis more thoroughly.
I recall something about the Alfa chassis Saab helped develop for what was supposed to go under a new 9-5 weighing a bunch because Saab kept on make it stiffer and stiffer and safer.

Saab safety is surely one of the reasons the car weighs so much.

Quickly looking at the Specs, it has the most power, most space, and comparable gas mileage. Longest and second best turning circle. I'm sure there are some other favorable points for the 9-5. It's prob. the safest car of the bunch.

The A6 trim level/drivetrain is not comparable to the others.
