i had the black DI in my car for like 8-9 months and the car ran like it should. I got it used, with idk how many miles on it. But when it died my car was stranded in the middle of the road ![]() |

Slaaby Seconds | Again, thanks for all the info. My initial intent was to use the new T7 DI due to its cost structure, and use my old T5 as a backup. I am very curious to know what the exact differences are between the two. I assumed that the T7 was just a more updated version of the T5 to simply handle additional features of the Trionic 7. Unless it is delivering different spark, I just don't understand how different it could be. I mean how different are the internals anyway? I'm still not exactly sure what I will do at this point.

stevehayes01 | I called my buddy at my SAAB dealer and the WIS stated that the T7 can be used but it will be more prone to failure on a T5. He said he has seen it done and it has not caused any failures that he has seen on a car but none the less SAAb does not recommend it.

a local saab master tech told me a few months back that a faulty T7 DI can be used on a T5 car w/o any issues. He stated whatever the part that fails on the T& DI's isn't used on the T5's & otherwise they are the same hope that wasn't to confusing ![]() |

daveship | not a problem installing a black di (T7) in place of a red di (T5). not recommended to use a red di in a T7 car.....in an emergency use whatever will get you home, but go easy.

BurnsSide42 | I'm under the impression you CAN - and from what Tweek has demonstrated - no problems so far. I plan to run a T7 DI on my 1995 9K

talk to tweek, he ran a black DI for a few weeks, including half of saabtoberfest, and had no problems, and he got his DI cassette out of a saab dumpster. The only thing wrong with it is that in a T7 it will throw an error code, and a CEL, but doesnt affect anything and i know people will bitch about my saying that, but i asked my mechanic about it, and thats what he told me. And that a T7 will work with T5, but not the other way around |

VAGGEN | I tried this when I was testing for boost problems. It will work in the short term or in an emergency, but over time it could be very harmful to your car as it will no longer sense knock properly.

stevehayes01 | The short answer from everything I have read is no on that one.

T7 DI Cassette in a T5?? Calling all experts! Can you put a T7 DI Cassette in a T5? I am asking this question because Eeroparts has a special on T7 cassettes ($249.00) and I probably will need a new DI soon. I have a 1999 9-3, and if I can save a $100 or so it would be worth it. I know the black cassettes (T7) have additional features for knock sensing and the like, but will the additional features affect my T5? I know this could be a big debate, but just looking for some good info on the subject. |
