chevyman Ok. Thanks for the help. Ive read a lot already, but i guess like you say i need to keep reading.
Found the answers. For some stupid reason i never looked at the ecuproject forums, just the manual, so that helped.

dan-the-kid Your laptop does not already have that connector on it.

Yes, you're laptop as a USB and DB-9 connector on it, but not the hardware to convert CAN messages from your car directly to your computer.

You need to read a whole lot more on ecuproject about the CANUSB.

Tuning the ecu in the car

I have a couple questions. On the t5suite manual they recommend the lawicel CANUSB interface. My laptop already has that connector on it, so would the pinouts be thesame as the lawicel unit? It also says that the can bus needs to be terminated by 120 ohms on each side, but the trionic side already is. does that mean i need to add a resistor in the wires from the sfi connector to my pc to meet that ohm level for the other side? Id like to do it in the car so i can run the moniroring software and i dont have a power supply to power the ecu out of the car.
