|ilovemybike||So I test drove a cobalt SS for a state inspection and couldn't help but notice that it had an LSD in its 5 speed. Has anyone swapped those into an OG9-3? I like the idea of an LSD and not having to tear into the case and shell out the big bucks too.|

Death disaster and a new reason to drop the cradle.
So I took my car to Virginia for the long weekend, beat an Rx8, WRX, Mazda speed 3, Jetta IV Vr6 and a few other cars on the highway, but blew it up on the way back. Yes indeed, nine hours from home with a oil spewing flaming hole in the side of the block. Luckily I had some primo fiji water to douse the OPEC flames. Negotiations are being made with the junkyard and hopefully I will be back boosting and blowing up stuff soon. I suppose I shouldn't be beating on this car but why make power if you don't use it?

get a 9-3 transmission and have an LSD put in while it is out. and yeah the viggen clutch should be a good choice for your power levels.

Every automatic ng900 has all the provisions for a manual tranny. If you search on here, someone just successfully documented the swap and needed minimal parts past the transmission and related components.
Definately don't skimp. One thing I have learned is to do it right the first time, always works out better.

The holes surely are there but plugged, like on my C900
For NG 900 type sure you need to punch a hole for hydraulics since they expected a cable there instead
what about ECU, does it control the tranny also?

The hardest part may be making holes in the firewall for the clutch Hydraulics.
I am not sure if the automatic has those holes there or not.
Nick T. has a template on his website somewhere for which holes have to be made for the hydraulic clutch conversion. Using that template it shouldn't be very hard.
Although I hear it is much easier to make those holes without the engine in the car, but it is doable.
other than that, everything else should bolt up fairly easily.
A ng900 trans will work, but if it came with a cable clutch you will have to do away with the cable bits. Plus a 9-3 trans has a few upgrades to it, and it should have the upgraded shift linkage as well.
Make sure you buy a new slave cylinder, this is not a part you want to skimp on. A new one is cheap enough and will save you from dropping the trans when a used one fails prematurely.
A Spec stage2 disc and a Viggen Pressure plate should be good combo for what you have.

5 speed swap in '99 9-3
Two weeks into driving my B234R Stage III setup I really want to be able to row through the gears. I don't mind swapping parts and some fabrication, what do I have to get together for parts? Will an NG900 transmission work? What clutch would be recommended for my power level, and should I get an LSD while I'm at it?
