|mcrowley||The 130 from eeuro came with a pulley. Physically its bigger because theres obviously more wire wound inside the case. The easy way to get it in the engine bay is to cut off the passenger's side exhaust hanger, wedge the new alt in from below, then weld the hanger back on.|

Not to thread jack but my 99 9-3SE has a 130 amp. It was an early 9-3 too.
Did the SE and S have different amp alternators?

|mcrowley||Swapped in a 130amp from eeuro last night for the original 90 that was in the car. Turns out the noise I've been hearing for months was howling bearings!|

|srp||Find a local rebuilder. Tell him you want to up the amperage. Should not be to expensive or a big deal.|

|mcrowley||See, I'm not ready to assume the bearings are good. I've changed pretty much all of the other accessories/pulleys except the alt and ac compressor. There has always been an interesting noise that came from the back of the motor in that area. I'd just rather play it safe then be stuck somewhere with a dead car.|

Why change the alternator for "preventative" reasons, it may end up worse than what you have
assuming the bearings are good just change the regulator and the brushes if you really want to chase trouble...

I would look at the one from an OG9-3 .... it is 120AMP in 99 and 00 and 130amp in 01-03.
I am currently running a '97 90amp in my 9-3 while I am having my 120amp rebuilt.

For preventative measures I'm probably going to switch out the original 142,000 mile alternator on my 96 900 in the near future. My question is if there is a higher amperage one I can use vs the stock 90amp. Is it possible to use the 120 amp out of a 9000 or V6 900?
