lms I had a novi 2000 on another car, and since it was belt driven, it hit from the get go. No lag, no nothing. Granted, there is no way you would be able to mount that size of a SC on a saab. But where in the hell would you mount a smaller one? What pulley would you use, where would the SC be mounted? There is no -f-ing way you could mount one of those on say a viggen based on location. Is the NA different?

christian900se Like most new projects, I think you can only really find all the loose ends when you start building it. Then it kind of becomes an issue of how much time and money you want to invest. T5 can definately be tuned to support the increased air flow, and supercharged engines can certainly make good power low down. The downside is that you will lower the max power level since there is only so much you can decrease pully sizes.

The idea of a supercharger is to boost without the lag. So I think it would probably be better suited for a low-revving motor, however a stock motor can rev to 6.5-7k RPMs, which isn't really that bad.

VW had a sequential supercharger/turbo setup that would obtain the best of both worlds. Maybe consider a similar sequential system where a small supercharger would help spool up a big turbo. There would have to be either an electric, or boost controlled gate to divert airflow once the supercharger runs out of puffs.

These are ancillary devices, driven off a belt. Trionic would not care in the larger sense. Obviously if it was flowing more air are a given pressure it might care...but if tuned it would not act in some way unique to having belt driven boost.

gm I was looking at a dyno sheet on a elise that had one of those superchargers on it. The powerband was crappy, no power untill 6K+ then it was a 100+whp hit however only for 2000-2500 RPM's

lowbudgethero There wouldn't be a whole lot of low rpm power that you would get with a turbo. However, more power is more power, but the amount of fabrication and problems that would probably arise doesn't make it worth it imo.

edit: I'm not too sure about the particular superchargers, but our motors dont rev very high i don't think we would get that much boost

That is a pretty cool idea but you sure would be spending a lot of time, effort and money on a 1-2k car. It would be a one of a kind though.

stig I've been thinking that a supercharged 2.3N/A engine in a gutted car would be pretty fun.

Kinda makes me want to pick up an N/A and do it... but that would require skillz that I don't have.

TheTalladegaKid im sure finding a place to bolt up won't be an issue. but yeah I wonder how t5 would take it? or a stock ng transmission. I bet if you could make a vf supercharger work on t5 it would rip balls.

christian900se You could try it out, there is plenty of space uder the hood if you find a way to mount it. Just use the existing turbo plumbing and intercooler, but the only thing I am not sure about is how you will run that safely. If you can find a way to hook it up so that trionic doesnt freak out, then you would be the first.

centrifugal supercharging

don't get me wrong. I love turbos and have only used turbos but has anyone used this form of forced induction on either their 900 or 9-3? back when I was into vw tuning I noticed a few people used bahnbrenner and vf superchargers and a few of the applications were 1.8 8v/16v and 2.0 8v/16v. most likely you'd make larger numbers using a bigger turbo I guess im just curious as to how it would work swapping out for a n/a manifold and going supercharged. what do you guys think?
