Oh, I should add I got the car put on my insurance and went to the DMV and ordered personalized collector plates. I have a 60-day temp tag until they get here.
Not very exciting, I know.

Well I got it started and moved off the street (to avoid the impending snow emergency and getting towed).
A $37 heat gun, two long extension cords, and about 45 minutes of heat directed right at the starter motor helped it turn right over.
And more to the point, I know how to get it started when I need to move it again.

My basic plan is to start it, drive to the car wash, wash the salt off, and then drive to my storage garage for winter storage.
The problem is -- I need to clean out the half of the storage garage where it is going first, and it needs to start in order to get to the garage in the first place.
It's supposed to get real cold next week, too, as an added complication.
But, basically, yeah -- I'm not driving this in the winter.

Well it took awhile, but Marty was kind enough to drive the 99 T up to the MN Saab Club meeting on Thursday night, and I picked her up and drove her home.
JK, to allay your fears, the brake master cylinder was replaced and the brakes are working fine.
So I put her on the insurance as a collector car, and went to the DMV and order some personalized collector plates. Until they come I get a 60 day temp tag that lives in the rear window.
It won't start when cold. Marty told me about this, apparently the solution is to bang on the starter with a hammer while trying to start it. Once it warms up, it starts fine.
My question -- wouldn't pouring hot water over the starter warm it up enough to start? Or using a hair dryer pointed at the starter? I'm looking for solutions that do not require two people to try and start it.

|Moonracer||Brakes have been flushed all calipers cleaned and freed up, new pads in front. the master is ok to drive untill later it only bypasses when you slightly let up on the pedal and it's only the first half of the cyl that is messed up anyway.|

|JK||Well, to me going is equally if not more important than the ability to go. On an unfamiliar car I always to a brake flush and inspection before driving it any sort of distance.|

Yeah, the brake master cylinder is having some issues. The first time you push the pedal after start up it's mushy, and then it firms up afterward.
It's driveable. Do I fix it now or do I wait until spring?

You mentioned good response from steering and gas pedal...but how about the brakes? Seems conspicuously omitted!

Well, I got to drive the 99 Turbo today. The car needs new tires in the worst way, and I had some good rubber in the storage garage - so I ran it down to Marty's and had a chance to play.
I have had the car for over four years. I bought it not running. After all that time, it is a completely surreal experience to start it up and drive it around.
There are still a few loose ends to tie up before it comes home, and a long list of items on the project to-do list, but it actually drives pretty well. Especially considering the 12-year-old, dry-rotted, flat-spotted tires.
But after 5 or 6 miles, I absolutely love it. Direct, quick responses to both gas pedal (when the revs are up) and steering wheel. Eager and agile. Loads of character, all of it good.
It was love at first drive.
