You N/A guys want what small-block Chevy owners have done for the past 50 years: ported head, headers, more fuel, more air, and adjustable timing.....
Maybe change the pulleys, remove the a/c compressor...
There are very few bolt-on mods for the N/A, but there's still power to be made from that engine if it's treated like half a V8.

|mike saunders||Jeeez...it's really hard to say without dyno testing before and after. Your "butt dyno" is telling you you're feeling more ooomph, so I'd go with that. It probably sounds nice too.....(The car, not your butt.)|

|citronxbeige||what do you guys think my gain/ loss was with the viggen exhaust. i believe its either 2.25 or 2.5" piping. it sounds a lot better and i have definitely noticed that it pulls harder from 4k to 5500 rpms. i dont see how i could have LOST any power, but at the same time im not expecting anything more than a 4-5 hp gain.|

Well if I was you I would just take your saab, straight pipe it. - take it to your local custom exhaust guy and have him remove the resanator in the middle of you car and your rear muffler and have him re-use the old hangers off of that. This is going to give your saab a very nice tone. now you are going to sill have your cats which is going to help you keep some of the back pressure that your n/a car needs, now taking out the muff, and resanator is going to cost like 1/10 less than some of thse overprice, mandrel bent super awesome exhaust
You can ask 80% of the guys @ mp sponsered dyno day in parker and i had the best sounding saab there, alot of the guys that paid 1000+ for thier exhaust.... they were kinda kicking themselfs in the ass when i told them that i paid less than 200 for mine and that included the $40 exhaust tip...

You cannot use the JT exhaust on the Non Turbo.
The Saabsport stainless is very loud on the na. Yes I have tried it. It will bolt up.
You can install a stock turbo rear muffler, this will make it sound nice and flow a bit better.

is putting on headers something i could do myself?
OHH do i see the difference now? are headers for my car, but an exhaust manifold is wut u call it when it has a turbo? maybe maybe? lol
but ok... yeah i do remmeber talking abotut hat but i thought these might be the same things.... ok
yeah i guess i need to talkto that guy about making sum headers....

|Logan Leslie||dan those aren't headers. Thats an exhaust manifold for a turbo. You see the square flange? Thats where you mount the turbo. Did you miss the post last time where Rob mentioned how you could have some custom ones made for around $650? It was the last time you NA guys talked about exhausts...|

are there any other options for headers? and why do f'ing honda civics have headers on ebay for $70 but mine are 950.... i know theres a whole lot more civics that are modded than saabs, but still... 900bucks difference?
and im sure those $70 arent great but still...

generally a free flowing exhaust on an n/a will help you with top end power somewhat, but will HURT low end torque. If you are looking for high RPM power and don't care about the low end, you could stick a 3" exhaust on an N/A! Personally, I think it's a good idea to have some backpressure on an n/a 4 cyl that's not a crezy rev-happy engine... however, sticking a nice catback system is not going to hurt anything and you may even pick up 2 or 3 HP (and drop 5 ft/lbs of torque)
in any case, it will sound better with a more freely flowing exhaust.

Because you don't have a turbo, Dan.
Turbocharged cars benefit most from opening up the exhaust tract and removing backpressure behind the turbo. This is what a downpipe will do, and, to a lesser degree, a catback system.
The best thing for an N/A car would be headers, to remove backpressure at the manifold.
Seriously....most of the mods you want to consider are ones taken straight from standard muscle cars. (I think I posted this when you asked it before; you might want to read the answers to your own posts! )

exhaust differences ?
hey, im really looking to get a new exhaust system, bu which do you guys think would be better to get?
im guessing the entire catback system would give me the best performance? however it is almost double the price... will it be a big enough difference worth that?
what do you guys have?
