stevehayes01 We all know the progression ------

Pre 1994 --SAAB 95,96(V4's),99(all 8v)
900 8V and 16V (2.0 and 2.1)
9000 2.0 and 2.3 16V
1994 -- GM Buys SAAB
GM900 Replaces SAAB C900 (see what I am getting at here... it can be a different platform but it still replaced the C900).
GM retires 9000 as flagship and replaces it with what?? Say it with me .... 9-5.

See the progression theory here??


What I was saying is that in the red blocks you have the +T or no T options. Other than that the motors are not that drastically different. In the white blocks yes there are differences but they are still similiar enough that you can intermix lots of parts....

All I was saying is that for the SAAB it makes sense and is very easy to follow in this format.

what? the c900 was an all-saab platform with a backwards-facing longitudinal engine connected by a chain to a tranny that was also the oilpan while the GM900 was an opel vectra bodypan and a transverse H-engine hooked up to a conventional side-mounted transmission. The 9000 was also a shared-platform car with a transverse engine hooked up to a conventional side-mounted transmission. There are also huge differences between volvo redblocks and even bigger differences between whiteblocks, much bigger than the differences between the various H-engines that saab has used.

Ok the GM 900 and the 9000 are not anywhere near the same car. The GM900 was the evolution of the C900 where are the 9000 is the 9-5's older brother.

The trionics are pretty much the same but the cars are different. In the Volvo world a red block is a red block and a white block is a white block so it makes it very easy to lump them together.

amish_geek I also like the fact that I can minimize the sub forums that are not relevant to me to make my browsing experience better.

I minimize the 9-5, the 9000, the 9-3SS, and the vintage forums so I only see the announcements, ng900/og9-3, c900, marketplace, offtopic, and showoff categories.

This way I can browse and participate in discussions about things relevant to my own ownership (a C900 and an NG900), without having to sift through other models.

This also improves the quality of the information given, because you don't have someone posting things like 'Well I have modesl XYZ, it's not the same as yours, but this is what I did to fix this problem".

Blaque There are an abundance of subforums for one reason. Organization.

When you're looking for information, just go to the forum that deals with the category of interest.

For example.. have an idling issue for you're NG900.. go to the NG900 "Car Problems?" section.

Not sure where to look for your issue. Do a search. Your search will yield results and list which forum they came from. If your searching for a soultion to a 9000, and your search comes up with information from the NG900, New 9-3 and 9000 forum, you can quickly choose the 9000 related information instead of searching through 100+ pages of information from car models that are different from yours. You can even filter your search to only search a specific forum. Without subforums, this filter wouldn't be very useful.

Thanks for the suggestion, but you may want to look at the forums and their descriptions. Its organized so you can find information easily, and not search through numerous pages of unrelated content.

coming from the volvo world, there were V70's and S70's on the 850 platform with beam axles and FWD, and V70's and S70's with independant rear suspensions and AWD on the same platform, and don't forget that the 1998 and before cars had bosch motronic with cable throttles and old-fashioned distributor ignition while the 99-00 cars had ME7 with E-throttles and coil-on-plug ignition. Don't forget that you also have the s80's with their 4-speed GM transmissions and the other P2 body models with all sorts of suspension and engine variations. They are all lumped in the same forums and it's alot easier to get specific information on a given car that way because there are so many people that might have something useful to say but don't drive the same model car that you do.

The RWD volvo 700's and 900's are like the saab 99's and C900's, they were basically the same car with a few changes, while the evolutionary progression from the FWD 800's through the 98-00 x70's to the P1's and P2's that we have today is alot like the progression from the 9000, through to the GM900 and on to the OG 9-3 and the 9-5. Yes there are suspension differences between the cars, but the mechanicals were nearly identical and the trionics have alot more in common than they have apart.

look at volvospeed's layout for a great example of a streamlined forum that covers a huge range of different cars and does it well. AKA when I have a question or problem that hasn't been adequately answered by the search function, I can ask it in a more general forum and have a good chance of getting a good answer within a few minutes. At least in the 9-5 subforums here the wait was more like days in my experience. Performance and cosmetics are also really general topics and a more general format for those makes things helpful. Saabnet has been pretty helpful for me, it's pretty fast-paced but the forum software makes me want to go and play halflife on my pentium II while listening to some nu-metal and watching "independance day". Saabcentral also suffers from having too many forums, while it makes organizing the search feature a bit easier, it really cuts down on the number of responses that you can get to a given thread in a given subforum.

fieldsc yea.. I usually use the search tool. What I hate about saabnet is it doesnt show the entire thread, every single post has to be opened individually. so painful trying to get information out of that bb.

Saablink users who have made a donation of a specific amount have access to the image hosting site so we do have a gallery persay...........if we add a showroom link in place of the showoff your ride forum it could just take you to the saablink image hosting site.

NahumCC I think that the setup we run on TSL is much better. Saabnet is a pain in the but because of there bb software. Saab central is only slightly better than saabnet because they use the same software we do but each car has only two sections. Performance and General questions and that makes it hard to sift through all the posts looking for specific info. Here, for example, if you wanna find a info on how to do a custom install of gauges on a 9-3 you can look in the customization thread or the tutorial section. Much easier to locate what your looking for here.

abdukted1456 also, I tend to use the "today's posts" and "new posts since last visit" feature, so I am able to see and participate in threads from many forums, not just the one for my car.

DeLorean personally I think the forum - sub form set up works well, it just gets a little annoying when people post to the wrong sections of the sub forums.

Agreed as well. ng900/9-3 are kinda the same...but the 9000/9-5? Those are completely different!

if you do that same search here, you can search the whole saablink.net OR you can search ONLY in 9-5 forums and get results mor tailored to what you are looking for for YOUR car. Makes it easier to find things IMO
