Hi, yes bypass is a possibility, as sometimes are bearings but why not take it to a workshop ..even a SAAB one if desperate, ...as your car is registered....and ask them but not for a paid diagnosis. There are also turbo experts....there are also industrial stethoscopes (be careful around belts) quite cheap to buy ...better than hit and miss here, even if the correct answer arrives/has arrived.

2005 Turbo making high pitched noise
I have a 2005 sportwagon, thatís having an issue with the turbo. When the turbo goes into the yellow, there is a high pitched whine. When it happens it sounds like a Japanese motorcycle is about to pass me. When it first started happening last year, I spent a lot of time looking in my side view mirrors looking for motorcycles. I finally realized it was coming from my turbo, or at least my car when the turbo hits the yellow. Any idea what it might be?
