The B234L in the 9000 is all the same hardware, just a T25 turbo with lower boost pressure versus the TD-04 in the B234R. The pistons, valves, rods, crank, etc. is all the same. Same goes for B205L vs. R, etc.
The N/A B234 (I think B234E?) that came in non-turbo NG900's won't have the ports for oil supply for the turbo tapped and may be a pain to deal with. I don't remember what the compression ratio of the N/A B234 is either, but I'd be almost certain that the pistons are different.
If you're gonna build for power it'd be a good idea to do new forged pistons anyway. They are much cheaper than they used to be.

I'd just replace the valves there, I ran pistons worse than that
from this post:You MUST (emphasis mine) use a 9000 head gasket, it is thicker and necessary to get the proper valve clearance, otherwise you will hit the valves. The 9-5 pistons have valve indents to help here. Don't worry if the headgasket looks like it covers some of the water ports it the head it will still flow fine and get plenty of cooling.

I pretty much know only the T7 stuff, but what about the B234L?
Didn't that come in the 900 N/A's up until like 99-2000? Maybe that's out of the conversation as far as mating a T7 head anyhows..

A B204 block is the same as a '94+ B234, the only difference between the 2.0L and 2.3L bottom end in the B204/B235 is the crankshaft and connecting rods & pistons.

I think ONLY the 9000 had the B234. NG900 never had anything bigger than 2.0L, and OG9-3 only had the 2.3L in the Viggen which is the 235 which the 9-5 has.

b234 with t7 head
The b234 bottom end/block does it have to be out of a 9000? what about the t5 9-5 ????
