|pviggen00||I'm about to buy a second car with fewer miles for daily driving and once that happens I'm pulling apart the Saab and preparing it for the next 100,000 miles. I'll get to the cv's and post any of my findings and document what works. It seems that every Viggen driver with CV issues gets confused about what will work. Too many people posting about what "might be true"!|

Not that I am an expert, and would certainly defer to experience in this arena, but I have been under all 3 cars: The 2002 9-3se, the 1999 9-5, and the 2000 Viggen (current car). The 9-3se has a much smaller diameter intermediate shaft, and is, I want to say...the same length as the Viggen?
The 9-5 is the same width as the Viggen, but also longer as the 9-3se.
The Intermediate shaft then, I believe, is both as wide as the 9-5's, but is shorter than the 9-3?
Now I personally am going to read over this a few times, and look around, because...guess what? I have a torn driver's side CV boot as well.
Pissing me off too.

Either way, thesaabsite and eeuro show nothing viggen-only.

|pviggen00||Err, maybe not the intermediate shaft ( that's the one that makes up for the offset ?) The axle shaft.|

|pviggen00||The intermediate shaft is specific to the Viggen. I had an issue recently replacing the tripod bearing on mine after ordering a bearing that supposedly fit 9-3 and Viggen. It did not... I was mainly concerned with finding out weather a companion flange or bearing cup from a 9-5 was compatible as well as the tripod bearing. If there's no funny business and WSW was able to make it work with his Viggen, I'll give it a try.|

|g96nt||the long shaft, which TSS lists as viggen-only when you look at axles is part 4686911 which is 9-5 as well.|

Inner Tripod is both viggen and early 9-5
outer CVis both viggen and early 9-5
inner driver is both viggen and early 9-5
Intermediate shaft is all 9-3

if your boots have been torn for a year an a half, it's entirely possible that you've done damage to the cups.
I don't believe that anything in the viggen axles are viggen-specific, but a mix of 9-3 and 9-5 parts. Have you gone to eeuro and just compared part #s?
I would STRONGLY suggest against buying "new" aftermarket axles. After trying it with my 9-5, and having Harvey nearly beat me with the crap I got, I ended up buying Autozone Duralast Remans (Google reviews led me to them), and they're going well in my heavy, lowered, "fast" wagon. for $60 each, it's tough to beat.

Viggen CV nightmare. will 9-5 bits fit on Viggen shaft?
I've got a Viggen with about 210,000 miles on it. It's still going strong and I'm not about to give up on it. About a year and a half ago I noticed that my inner cv boots had torn. At the time I believe there were still a bunch of aftermarket cv axle assemblies for sale that claimed to fit Viggens so I didn't really sweat it, figured I would just buy a couple of new $80 axle assemblies. I had searched around on forums and most people agreed that aftermarket axles were fine unless you were doing some serious tuning. I should have done some more Viggen specific searches...I'm guessing I would have found out most of the aftermarket solutions don't fit! Now my Viggen is shaky under throttle from 45 mph up to 70, where it becomes more of a vibration. Anyone familiar with looking at all of the separate parts knows building a Viggen spec axle will be super expensive. My question is... if I buy a 9-5 aftermarket axle and pull the companion flange and tripod bearing off, will they fit the Viggen shafts and diff? My understanding is that the shaft on a 9-5 and Viggen is the same diameter but different lengths. Theoretically this should work right? Unless I'm missing something. So, the final product would be a 9-5 companion flange (fits diff splines?)and tripod bearing all fitting happily (everything is the correct length and diameter) on the rest of a working Viggen axle. Hopefully someone with experience replacing Viggen axles can chime in! Thanks to anyone with info!
