Thanks for the reply and pic on the wiring! I have the Maptun stg.1 already for the automatic gearbox and as such I don't want to alter the software map...just reflash it the way it's needed for T7 adaptation, nothing else should be changed. I live down in Hungary and although we have one or two known trionic guys inside our Saab circles they only deal with t7, self-declared. And if it wasn't enough, I'm also concerned with the picky h/w modification. Although I now see the T7 route could be the best path, with a good and cheap valve plus no need to get an item through from overseas. Maybe I'll try to pull things together sometime for that mod, being it the cheapest, most tried and direct solution.

Where are you living, there are many great programmers in Europe/Asia too, who can make your T5 ECU to use T7 valve and some more boost too
There's no need for Tech coupling, the wiring ain't a problem either becouse you don't need to cut any existing wires, just make an extension like this one:

Thank you for all your invaluable input. Well I might get along with T5 suite programming needed for T7 valve inclusion but then there are the sticky hardware prerequisites too, ie. ecu hook up to pc, overcome harness differences and also the ecu dissection (and afterwards possibly yet another Tech-II coupling of the ecu?).
All this I could move without having that single conversion kit. T8 valves - as identified and reported by Saabeh - arent top constructions either, but then T5 bpc's are flawed too, while the former being stupidly cheap. I might prefer going for the purchase of this kit, 'coz it's just a plug-n-play apparatus. But again, at first would be good to know whether how well it works with tuning...

Maybe a better route would be to learn T5 suite and reprogram your ECU for the T7 valve, then just install that with a T7 harness. Probably cost you about the same. See ecuproject.com. There's a page that describes the T7 BPC mods... I think around page 170.

The t8 valves aren't very good either, But they are cheap. I'd say its the #2 post tune issue (for BCB anyways), just behind coilpacks/plugs in the t8 cars.

Looking it up, it appears to use the BPC from the trionic 8 cars. I have no idea how good they are, but they appear to be a generic valve used in many other places, like subaru:

so i and everyone else understand exactly what you are trying to do:
you have a T7 car that you want to convert to T5 software and valves?
you have a T5 car that you want to convert to T7 software and valves?
the latest post tells me the kit is designed to make a T5 car operate with T7 software and valves.
why not just get a tune for the car from a reputable person? mail it back and forth

Saabeh &MikeD, my mistake I apologize. You were definitely right, taking another look on the kit diagram, it does show a BPC which is clearly not a Saab T7 bpc (first I thought it was). Apologies again that i overlooked this. Then it all makes sense that it's probably a subaru bpc. Well then I seem to be left only with the 2 classic options: sticky T7 mod or expensive OEM T5 bpc. Because in T7 valve we trust and I'd remain within Saab options rather not mess with other brand bpc's, unless there's no other option.
EDIT: OK getting a bit ambiguous... On the Converter Kit, the label reads:
"SAAB BOOST VALVE CONVERTER:
Converts 1994 thru 1998 9000&NG900 Boost valve output to operate Saab 9-3 boost valve"
Now to me it means a T7 valve will be operated by the kit but then what is the bpc on the diagram.

|Marquer||MikeD, AFAIK the Newton T5 converter kit does not incorporate a valve, but it includes plug n play electronics and harness converting T5 signals to T7 (freq.change) plus doing the connector mod from 3 to 2 wires. It's been tested for quite a while now and reported to work on several cars (according to the inventor and my forum searches), but none of 'em were tuned saabs, but stock FPT's only. The question is whether it works with higher boost such as Stg 1-3 (or bhps: 230 - 280)|

|mike d||im not sure how the newton valve works, however i can tell you that there are board modifications made to make a t7 valve work. there are also modifications made to the software to accommodate the frequency changes|

Thanks for the recommendation. Unfortunately I'm from overseas so having Mike D at hand for a proper conversion would be a bit too complicated.
OTOH I might have missed out on something, because I don't know if the T5 converter kit uses any valve really... I thought it's just electronics that converts the physical connectors to adapt to the wiring differences that of the T5 and T7, plus converts the signal frequency to match T7 bpc's standard... Or did I get something wrong.

Having just looked at the website, I can say with some confidence that the valve used is from a subaru wrx. That being said, $150 is insane for something like that especially because people who do any tuning to a WRX upgrade to a Grimmspeed boost control solenoid because the stock one is junk.
It would cost you the same money to get a real tune on your 9-3 with the T7 valve enabled from Mike D.

T5 bpc Conversion Kit users?? (Newton Systems LLC by BobS)
I am planning on inserting a Newton's T5 BPC conversion Kit in my '99 9-3 lpt automatic, Maptun stg.1 225 hp car, so to accomodate a new T7 valve. Before going on I'd like to look for existing experience with that application and info from others already running with this kit!
I don't really know how long ago this kit hit the streets, but nevertheless I had a hard time finding relevant info in the subject. I already contacted BobS, the inventor and manufacturer brain behind this kit. But we are still short of certain info that may be found based on others' experience. What I already know is that this kit makes the whole wiring/ECU dissection/remapping/reflashing nuisance avoidable like a charm and T7 bpc can be installed plug n play.
I have some remaining questions though as follows:
- Is the kit compatible/usable/recommended for use in tuned applications, such as Stg 1/2/3, with boost up to say 1.5 bar. (The manufacturer of the kit only tested it on standard FPT engines, not ones with remapped ecu's, let alone higher ranges like stg 3, 4 or above.)
- Is the T7 bpc valve making any buzzing noise after T5 conversion? If yes, is it normal and what's the cause? Also, does original T7 engine setup make the similar bpc noise under operation? (Funny enough, I currently put in a brand new Scantech T5 bpc and it does make a weird buzzing noise, which I could really afford to go without, after T7 conversion anyway...)
