Strut Mount/Bearing

Ok so after about 2 months of hearing clonking over bumps in the road, I finally decided to do something about it. I noticed that this clonking was only evident when the weight would be lifted off the spring, and then recompressed.

So I went to good ole genuinesaab and went to order a strut mount, but then saw the strut bearing. I ordered it figuring that if that was the problem, i would save myself some money by not going ahead with the mount and if not, I probably needed it anyway and will get the mount later.

Now, can anyone tell me exactly what this mystery bearing does? I am going to have it put in soon, but dont really think it will help anything. im just really getting tired of the clonking.

Also, I found a KYB strut mount on that is only 50 dollars. I also really trust KYB and the price sure beats the OEM $98
