mike d the forge valves are great,, but exspensive, i have had a 100% success rate with this valve
below is a good video showing how these "cheap ebay" valves are made. its a pretty simple design compared to how an atmospheric valve works

Cm452 Fair enough But as for retaining boost made; one dumps into an open ended tube, the other into the atmosphere. Advantages are marginal for either one. What about running a recirc as a BOV, as many (including muhself) do with the Forge?

the open air valve being trouble has nothing to do with how it effects the trionic system on t5 cars, and everything to do with the fact that open air valves are just a shitty design.

open air valves always seam to either open to late causing some form of compressor surge, or open to early causing a boost leak. whereas a single piston recirc valve never seams to have any of these issues. i dislike open air valves because they just suck to deal with,, not because of how they effect the EFI system

OP has a 2001 - T7 w/MAF.

Jaws No MAF on T5 Bob. It is funny how these things go full circle. I would have sworn that a BOV would result in better boost response because 1) you are not blowing hot air back into the intake and 2) said hot air is not pushing back on the compressor in the wrong direction. It is interesting to hear this different perspective from Mike and Saabeh.

The ECU is monitoring the air coming through the MAF. If you dump some of it out of a BOV, you piss off the ECU.

Unless you're just looking for sound, this is not something you need to think about in terms of performance enhancements in 99% of cases.

Mike D understands this don't worry. It has nothing to do with effecting the tuning, its drive-ability. Any competent tuner will rather have a recirc valve. You don't lose all the boost you just created by shifting.

Cm452 What year? If it is a '99, then a dump valve is fine. If you have a black brick on the center of your engine (DIC) then you cannot run a BOV; you need a recirc.

Saabeh Saabs run better with an appropriate Forge (or the like) recirculating bypass valve. You want to hear it? Get an open intake.

hi all im new to saab tuning,done jap stuff before,just afetr some advice,do saabs run better with or without dump valve,i like the sound.what make is best for car.whats a good intake for the car and can you get yprated actuator for my model,its a 9-3 aero hot,y reg.
