ng900 | I do stuff to my dad's car, since it will be mine eventually. Dan, just be careful what you do to it, stick with simple stuff like spark plugs, intake, maybe exhaust, clear corners and side markers, etc. I agree with saabguy, don't put too much money into it until it's yours for keeps. You never know what might happen to it in the time until it's yours <knock on wood>.

danthegolfer | lol yea but thats why i ask so many questions ... and yea....

guru | Alright, I was a bitch, there's no excuse for that. But there was a point in there... I know if my kid started putting a ton of stuff into my car, I'd be pretty pissed off. And if my kid broke something in the process, I'd be down one heir. Just saying. Be careful what you're doing Dan, if you rub the old man the wrong way the car that would be yours is now the car that gets traded in for something that won't ever be yours.

i gave him a break, hell, i even gave him a guide, on how to do two things at once, that's like, finding two pennies on the ground instead of one, it's like, awesome. you can do whatever you want to your dads car dan, i put stuff into my mom's car, that i KNOW i'll never own, i do it cause it's fun, just don't go spending all your paychecks on your dad's car, maybe just a small amount on it, maybe 25% of what you make, and save the rest. ~justin |

Alright, I might be wrong, but back when I was driving my dad's car, I was only allowed to put one thing in it. Gas. I didn't do anything to it in hopes that it would become mine (although it did), I just took it for what it was-- a free ride for the time being. Dude, pimping out your dad's car while it's still your dad's car is just wrong. It's like spending your inheritance on candy and pretty shit while he's still alive. He must feel like you're stealing it out from under him. What if you screw up and ruin the car while you're working on it? Wait until it's yours before you go gallivanting around making it go faster than it's designed to. Otherwise you are just asking for disaster. This has been a message from The Guru's Office of Fear and Guilt. |

i can vouch for the crashing a good word of advice, never, ever, under any cercumstances, try and take a 90 degree turn, that's sloped outwards, is downhill, and is wet from rain at 45mph, when the speed limit on the road is 35mph, and doing 25 feels fast.... i definately totalled the jeep, i'm so sad, i miss v8, but i'm totally diggin the 28 mpg i get in the ol' saab-skeet-skeet ~justin |

As for all this modding Dan, wait until you're finished with high school, cos everyone crashes whatever they're driving in high school once they've finished doing what they want to it. |

haha, this is a funny post dan you have to look at upgrading a car like you look at sex, you really love the ideas of headers, so we'll make that the creme de la creme, or home run if you like baseball, lol. you can't just jump to it, you gotta start slow, a little barry white for the airfilter, some scented candles for the intake pipe, some other romantic shit for the relocation of the intake. getting a new cat is like making the first kiss, it's scary and nerve racking, there are lots of choices, and times to go in for the kill, but make your choice wisely. exhaust systems are like building up the courage to try and steal second, you gotta move slow, but afterwards you just want to tell everyone (trust me on that one, and no, i still have stock exhaust ![]() hopefully someone finds all that funny, but more so helpful, in more ways than one, lol ~Justin |

Dan, look closely at the list. Jak, who I respect greatly, is suggesting them to you in order of ease and cost, which is a pretty smart way to go about things. His comment about the heads not doing much "with no other mods" is right on target. You have to approach improvements from a system-wide outlook, not just a piece-meal approach. The cams, porting, headers and compression changes are going to have the greatest actual effect, but cost the most, require the most labor, and definitely keep your car out of commission for a while. Those are also way out of your DIY comfort zone. The other stuff you can bolt on in a weekend, if not a day, and they lay a foundation for for the cams, porting, headers, etc.... All those little things -- filter, cat, cold air induction, intake -- won't do much without the heavy stuff; and the heavy stuff won't do much without the little things to pave the way. To do anything much for power in your car, you'll have to do all if not most of those things, and you should be happy to get 25-30 hp. Maybe a little more torque.... EDIT: Just saw Rob's post and I totally forgot about the throttle body and overbored block and bigger pistons. That would increase displacement to 2.5L and give some big torque numbers... |

rcmdesign | Dude I already emailed Jak Stoll about all this and posted my results in the N/A section titled How to Increase Hp In an N/A see here https://www.saablink.net/TSL/saabforu...pic.php?t=3954 . Shit I asked the same questions and he replied the same way...Damnit start looking around...Probably pissing Jak off...haha sounded funny...

email from jak stoll hey i emailed jak stoll about him making some headers, however he was very helpful about what i should do with the whole system to get more power, and step #1 was NOT headers hers the email: Quote:
1) better flowing air filter (such as a k&n drop in filter) 2) genuinesaab.com air intake pipe 2) modify the air induction point so it draws in the most air from a cold source 3) better flowing cat 4) catback system 2.5inch 5) cams 6) headers and now for my dumbass questoin, what is the "PS and remapping" part? ty |
