I just got a response from a dismantler in Sweden, might be bringing over 2 sets of rectangular headlights, even though that wasn't in my plans. Its a package deal with an exhaust header. Some things are just impossible to find here in the US. Found dual carb kit (also undecided on that). Looks like I need to make a firm plan.

Very nice find then! The two 99's I've picked up (my yellow one and my brother's white one) had each been parked for ~20 years and both of them needed practically everything replaced. That's why I ended up stripping the yellow one down - I would have had to replace practically everything on the car to make it driveable so decided to just upgrade everything with C900 parts that I had easier access to.
Thanks for the compliments, feels nice. Can't wait to see what you get up to with yours!

Did a full clean/check yesterday. Everything is intact, gears shift, brakes hold, one 2" round rust hole in drivers side door, car sits level, and nothing else seems to be missing. Yanking gas tank and radiator to get vatted tonight. 44k miles seems to be original. Last registerd in 1983, parked same year. Looks like someone drove it a few months in 1989-90 and then it went into warehouse until a month ago.
Drew: I saw pics of the yellow 99 you have/had for sale. That has some really nice engineering. I printed out of the pics and I'm going to mimic a lot of it.
Can't post pic yet, I'm too new. Need to post some more.

Everyone who is still racing or modifying 99's and C900's is on there, and lots of great resources in old build threads.
You also might be interested in this, it's nearly done, and if you have a donor car to pull parts from it would go together the rest of the way really quickly.
Since you have owned a 99 already you'll be familiar with some of the weirdness in the engine. If it's been sitting that long then the water pump seals will be completely shot. Sometimes when the pump seals go from sitting and there is still coolant in the engine you will get coolant leak down into the jackshaft cavity and down into the block. Be careful when trying to turn the engine over or trying to crank it without some inspection first. If the jackshaft and water pump drive are corroded from coolant intrusion they can get rusted together, and when you go to spin the engine over it can break the teeth off the shafts. It would be a good first step to pull off the intake manifold and pop off the water pump housing to see what you're dealing with. You will be able to gently work the pump impeller back and forth in the slop in the jackshaft to tell if it's seized or not. If it's stuck solid and the pump bearing is seized then you should take it apart before proceeding to assess anything that might be damaged.

1974 SAAB 99 ems road racing build
Just got started. EMS I bought was parked in 1984 so not a lot of miles, just a lot of years. I'll be looking for any MSS or factory performance parts anyone has collecting dust. I raced a 75 99 back in 1983-1985 in SCCA pro solo and a few rallycross', but wore the car out quickly and I was young and poor so I had to stop. That car was decked out with 5-point cage, recaros, safety belts, 5-speed, boxed suspension, headers, MSS cam, dual carbs, HELLAs, and was a really fan car to drive on the street (years ahead of the tuner crowd).
I have 3 other newer SAABs (9-5 aeros and 9-7x) but I miss the feel of a 99.
